have her read Warren V D.C. and then she will realize self defense is your and her responsibility...the women in the DC case were repeatedly raped even after calling the police and they sued the court ruled that police had no duty to protect the women(not saying police dont try but the individual is the first line of defense)

i had some fucking knuckle head try to climb in the office window of my house a few nights back at like 3 in the am. glad i had my gun and my wife has hers.

my wife never wanted to go shooting with me even though i offered to take her and assured her she would like it lol. finally a little over a year ago she caved and went to the range with me. since then she loves it now and shoots great btw. lol she did much better than i did the first time i shot i can remember thinking to myself oh shit now i'm in trouble lol.

O.P. Buy a shotgun instead. Its a far better home defense weapon.

no it isn't, a pistol with a light attached is alot easier to operate in a house than a 18in barreled shotgun and you have a free hand to open/lock doors, call the police ect, come around the corner with grandpa's 12ga and the first thing the bad guy is gonna do is grab the barrel and take it from you or knock the muzzle down and shoot you

and spare me the "well with a shotgun you dont have to aim, you just point it down the hallway and pull the trigger"

a shotgun makes a perfect HD weapon if you hunker down and don't go looking for trouble but if you're johnny mall ninja then yes...it's a terrible idea

hahaha funny you say that, the guy that runs my local small town gun shop i deal with every once and awhile told me a story of an older couple that bought a shotgun for HD, he asked if they wanted any ammo for it and they replied "no we dont need any ammo for it, we're just buying it for the intimidation factor"

and no i'm not a mall ninja lol but when you have to go gather up loved ones, having everything you need in one hand is a huge advantage IMO

first life lesson: better safe than sorry
second life lesson: it is better to ask forgiveness than to ask for permission

buy one, if you decide to go the way of the "lesser evil" get a 9mm and bring her to the range and show her how to use it, but keep it unloaded in the nightstand with atleast 2 extra clips in the drawer. Its unloaded, you should both know how to use it incase of an absolute emergency, and aslong as you have the extra second or two you can load it in time.

    Yep.
Take her to the range, let her get comfortable and make sure she has fun. TEACH her about firearms and respecting them. Hopefully it works out for you both. Good luck!

    OP

I'd start with the real life stories about people who've been attacked (local would be good) and start warming her up to the idea about self defense first and foremost

THEN once you start getting her warmed up, shop together and find a range that rents various guns

Shoot several of different sizes and calibers

Then see how she feels about purchasing one

I carry AT ALL TIMES and due to that, I make sure that any woman I spend more than a handful of dates with knows how to use a gun properly

I've had some very hesitant and some super excited...many times just throwing them into a range and letting them shoot tends to turn them off to the idea bc it scares them

Another option if this is a factor, is to purchase a small .22 to start with...very little recoil and very manageable plus its cheap to shoot

You can pick up a .22 pistol for under $400 easy

Once you get her comfortable with that, bump it up to a larger caliber if you so choose

Do not be scared to use the .22 for defense in the meantime...a well placed .22 round is far more effective than a .45 round in the wall beside the bad guy

Put it to her this way... my brother works at a gun shop her in Sacramento. Apparently a couple years back, someone tried to Rob one of his co-workers at gunpoint as he was getting out of his car at his home. The guy has his CCW, and was able to 'protect' himself.

Ask your wife... if someone does decide to break into your house, and is carrying a gun, what is the can of Raid OR Pepper Spray gonna do besides piss them off.

Yes, it stings. But it does wear off. And who says he doesn't get to you before you get to your bottle? A weapon in the nightstand is readily available.

Just tell her that guns are the ultimate tool when it comes to protecting the things that a man needs to keep safe.

you'd be surprised how effective wasp spray can be in blinding an attacker

it can also be deployed from much further away than pepper spray

do not rule it out when in a life threatening situation

    **EDIT**

Per the almighty internet...this is a nasty rumor

Apologies...i had heard it from a close friend who normally wouldnt pass along bad information...

Oh, and also let your wife know that using pesticide (which is a poison) is technically a Federal crime if she hits an attacker with it.

Apparently not to be used outside of it's mandated use

Get the Glock 20. It fires a 10mm round, with the reliability of a Glock.

    10mm have more 'stopping power' than a .357 or a .45ACP
