    And to be clear

I do not support any racking of the shotguns as any sort of scare tactic

If it's a home defense gun then it needs a round chambered

The shotgun I keep by my bed is a side by side coach style that i can cock without making a single sound

right, i have a couple buddies that CCW with a loaded mag, empty chamber:rolleyes: i told them they'd be better off leaving the gun at home and carrying a knife, i always ccw with my weapon locked/loaded no exceptions doesn't matter if i'm on my atv in bear country or headed out to dinner with my g/f more than likely if it's coming out of the holster it's going to be fired and i'm not gonna screw around with racking the slide

Understood. That is one violation I will be gald to be cited for in the circumstances. Hope the guy she hits with it is alive to file the complaint.

Pepper spray and fire extinguishers have distance limitations and some of the less-lethal alternatives like Tasers were not available back then. The wasp spray was what we settled on.

Biggest mistake is to not do anything. We've always had a dog or two around and I convinced her that anyone that got past them intended to do her or our children bodily harm. She couldn't bring herself to have a firearm but became a she-wolf practicing with the wasp spray.

As for for me, if you've made it past the dogs....

Educate, not scare. There have been two invasions stopped by armed homowners in this area in the last couple of months and the story ended happily ever after for the homowner. Scary is what would have happened had they not been armed.

I was simply stating that the specific scenario was unlikely. Like something out of a movie. If someone grabs your short barreled shotgun they are dead. I really think that a HD shotgun is a better tool for the job. You can put a light on shotguns too;)

I just went through this myself about 4 months ago. When my wife was a kid, her dad scared the crap out of her by MAKING her shoot a .357 Mag at the range while she was only 9 years old. Dick...

Anyway, I spent more than 4 months reading and planning, sharing each little safety tidbit and my reasoning with her along the way. I explained why I wanted the gun I finally picked, what type of safes I wanted to get for the house and my truck, how any holster I get would shield the trigger, etc, etc. I also went to the range several times and either rented or borrowed a variety of guns and brought the targets back to show what I'm doing to get better and safer. I listened to every concern she had and rather than immediately suggesting a way to work around it, I let it sit for a day or two to think it over then we talked again about how we could eliminate it.

This worked extremely well. In four months we went from not having a gun in the house of any kind to me having my CCW and carrying on a daily basis.

Now I'm talking to her about going to the range with me. We're not quite there yet, but hopefully soon.

Keep at it and you'll either win her over or at least get her more comfortable with the idea.

That is my plan now. I'm glad to see it worked for someone else.

It does have all MagPul furniture on it. Kinda enjoying it naked for now, shooting with the iron sights is a good time. I will put some sort of red dot on it someday.
