coyote hunting

ok im looking at the savage axis xp either the 22-250 or the 243
all i wanna do is coyote hunt with it.
it is fairly windy up here in saskatchewan so thats why i was leaning towards maybe the 243 but what do u all think???

 

I've hunted with the 22-250 for years and it's great all the way up to white tail deer. Just keep it under 300 yards. Very accurate and very fast! Puts coyotes to sleep nicely!

 

the 243 will allow you to use heavier bullets and the heavier the bullet the more ability it has to buck the wind however it will still be effected by wind drift at long ranges. Either caliber would work well for coyotes. As for the savage the axis will work well but you may want to look for a model with the accutrigger. I have and love savage rifles and the accutrigger is fantastic. Just some food for thought. I have heard some of the non-accutrigger models dont have the smoothest triggers but that can be fixed by a good gunsmith. However if you are going to by a rifle I am a savage fan boy because you cant beat the accuracy for the price.

 

If you plan on selling the pelts - the smaller the pill the better.
Look at the 204 Ruger -

 

.243 will give you better distance and a better chance against the wind.

 

ive got a remington 700bdl .243 and i love it for coyote hunting!

 

That's what I'll be purchasing for groundhogs and yotes. Here in NJ you can only use the bow or shotgun for yotes. Gonna get the .204 for NY/PA yotes.
