yeah, that was my plan once i live in a free state, for now i'm content with drawing them and pretending my guns go "pew pew pew".

i'm jealous, right now i only have basic tools, i would have a full range of tools if we finished turning our barn into a shop.

i emailed the ATF about the age of someone building a suppressor and he said "18 to build items on a form 1. Thanks

oh this makes me very happy lol

I can work with cad, it will be a fun project for me...hopefully I can get one built before I turn 21 lol

I'm thinking I will make a tube and try to 3d print the inside, I won't get many shots out of it, but I can monkey with the baffles easier lol. After I get a baffle system that I like, then I'd make it out of steel.

I don't know if I will be able to do it, but if I had know about it 2 years ago I would have one by now lol

i saw a guy on AR15.com build a suppressor buy bending little steel plates for baffles using a rod to get them straight, and tack them in, and thats how he made the baffles.

there's a good bit of info on silencer talk.com
    here's some different baffle designs

Thanks! I took it out this weekend to try out the new suppressor.

Here is a video I took of my buddy shooting it.

ok, i think i have half decent knowledge of how a trust works, but i'm not sure about this.

question, if i built a suppressor, filed it as a trust, and put my grandpa on the trust, he'll be able to use it when i'm not there right?

    sorry if it's worded confusing.

Correct, anyone in the trust has legal access to NFA items in the trust.

But....if you are really 16, and in cali - both of those will prevent you from building a suppressor.

    awesome, thanks for the info.

yep, I'm 16 and in CA, but next year our family is moving to Miss., and i'll be 18 in july of next year.
I want to because i can, and a suppressor helps reduce noise (obviously) and felt recoil.

plus most people hunt without ear protection, in several states it's legal to hunt with suppressors, especially nuisance animals (which in some states can be hunted at night).

The correct answer is because they are cool.....and chicks dig em.

Really though, what 95 Taco said.

I've been a firearm owner/shooter most of my life and just recently got into suppressors. 80% of my shooting is done suppressed. Its really nice for taking first time shooters out as well - it seems the noise is most of what startles people.

    Have you shot anything suppressed?

Too many reasons to list. Why wouldn't you want to suppress a firearm?

A few different guns yes. I mean it was cool and all but seemed pointless to me. Its just one of those "my gun is bigger than yours" sort of things I guess.

Shoot a 22 LR bolt action suppressed and I don't think you'll be curious anymore. All the painful noise is gone, what little recoil there was has been mitigated and you can shoot all day without earmuffs or ear plugs. Even my 22 semiautos sound like air rifles when suppressed.

Technically thats true....it makes the gun longer :D

They are definitely not for everyone though. They are expensive, require supporting hardware (boosters, sights, adjustable gas blocks, adaptors, etc) and sometime take some tinkering to get running right.

I personally enjoy the tinkering. Guns for me is really an 'all in' hobby. I love working out mechanical issues. When you have a good weapon system (suppressed especially) working flawlessly, its just a joy to shoot.
