All About Suppressors

Finally got my latest round of paperwork to the CLEO. Paid for this can sometime in Dec '12, hoping to have it in hand by end of year...

Anyone have any experience with SilencerShop.com?

They seem like they have awesome prices, but not sure how it will all add up after transfers, etc.

You have to fill out a form with the ATF and pay the $200 tax, but you can do it at 18 instead of waiting till you're 21 to buy a suppressor.

Same thing applies with a SBR.

Yes, you can make your own as long as owning one is legal in your state. You need to apply for, and receive, a $200 tax stamp from the BATFE before you build.

That makes the prospect of me getting one much better then.
I have even seen drawings/plans for how to build them, but never did so with the thought of doing something that could forever take away my right to legally own a firearm. Or a huge fine...or prison

I recently learned about unfinished lower ar15 receivers, and being able to build your own firearm for personal use.

You should probably call the ATF. I submitted paperwork for a SBR on 1/1/13 and got it back on 8/22/13. It's in a trust which helps but you should have had an approval by now.

Nah, I'm still a few months out. Paid for it in Dec '12, dealer got the transfer in March or April, my CLEO took like 9 weeks for some reason and I submitted the paperwork in Aug '13. I'd be surprised if I have it by summer at this rate.

 

When u said paid I think we were thinking your tax stamp. Yeah u got awhile.

 

Any recommendations for a QD 7.62 suppressor?
It'll be used on a 10.5'' 300 BLK, 16'' 5.56, 16'' 6.8 SPCII, and possibly a 14.5'' 5.56, and 16'' 308.

I'd like it to add less than 9'' to the rifle, and user serviceable is a big plus.

 

Most cans I know of are not going to be serviceable in .308 capacity. I don't own one, but have heard good things about silencerco's Saker line. If I were shopping, I'd look at SiCo, AAC, Templar, Surefire and Thunderbeast. I know you are going for multicaliber use, but consider that a .30 cal can will be larger and heavier than a 5.56. Ounces don't seem like much until they are hanging out there off the barrel. Just something to consider.

No experience with the Saker. The AAC latch is a weak point - I've already had to replace mine on my 762SD, but AAC has great customer service and they stand behind their product. I have 2 AAC cans and they're both high quality and built tough.

 

I've been toying with the idea of having a suppressor or 2 and I've decided nows the time, Im wanting one for hunting, would have to be a 30 cal can for use on a 308 or my 270 (it would work right). and the 2 would be a sparrow for my 22s. my question is what would be a good 30 cal suppressor for this? also it will be on a bolt gun not sure if that matters i know most use them on ar platforms but how quiet could i expect to be? slower heavier loads would work best correct? lastly do you purchase the suppressor before the paperwork comes back or do you just pay the 200 stamp then pay for them afterwards?

 

The serial number of the can has to be on the app. I usually let the customer put money down on a suppressor layaway and have them pay it off while waiting on the paperwork.

Storing the darn things while waiting on the feds is a PITA.
