And with minor polishing of the sear engagement surfaces, makes it a incredibly stable shoulder bump-fire platform.

I get the eye, every so often at the range, for bump firing a entire mag from my shoulder. It makes it extremely easy to engage in full auto fire.

There is no more SABR... its now the REPR. That rifle's specs were, in large part, requested by me. It started with a request that they look into a DPMS based. 308 AR conversion. Once they decided to make their own rifle they took input from end users on some design questions. Most companies don't do that. I am glad to say they put all my ideas into the rifle. Once my taco is built Im getting a REPR... also requested it in a 5.56 version which I think won't be out for a couple years. The REPR has a non reciprocating side charge which eliminates the hole in the rear of the receiver for the charging handle. You have to eliminate that hole for use with a suppressor or you get smoke from the receiver venting into you eye.

Get an AK74, I think the only ones available for a decent price are the Tantals. You get a similar size bullet to the AR and the simplicity of the AK. I own a Saiga 7.62x39, an AKM74, and a Palmetto State AR. I like my 74 out of all of them, ammo is CHEAP and it shoots as well as the AR out to 300 yards. The only problem with the AK74 is finding mags, they will come back, but right now they are hard to find for a good price.
If you are mechanically inclined you can get a saiga and convert it, this is the best way to go and the cheapest and actually get an AK made in Russia. You can find these for about 349.00 @ centerfire.com.
I would suggest trigger time also, what I like and what you like are two different things, the AK is a totally different animal than an AR. I have more experience with the AK so I am more comfortable using that platform.
If you are looking for a cheap WASR, well they aren't so cheap anymore, they are good rifles if you get a good example and get to check it before you buy it. Do your homework before you buy anything.
A great resource for AK is theakforums.com.
A great resource for the AR is ar15.com, this one however you have to feel your way through alot of bullshit.

Another plus for the side charging handle. I had to create a silicone seal around the charging handle on my noveske to prevent getting my eye full of carbon and hot gasses when i ran it with my can attached.

..probably more of personal preference than anything... which looks more appealing? which looks more fun?... some folks like the com-bloc stuff, some like the AR stuff... AK is kinda rough around the edges and known for persistent operation in harsh environment, AR more refined w/ a lot of versatility w/ a huge market for tacti-cool stuff...

.I have an AK-47 and I love the thing. Ammunition is fairly inexpensive, at least compared to 30-30, .40, and .45 cal rounds I love to blow through. Its also fairly accurate, and I mainly use the iron sites. I am going to be picking up an AR when funds are there, but for now I'm happy. Its probably going to come down to personal preference. Either way. Happy shooting. =) I'm not sure how great of a deer gun or whatnot it would be, but I'm sure it would do the trick either way ;)

I went through this years ago and money won out. I got the AK and lots of ammo and still had money left over compared to the AR. Both of them are fun and you really can't go wrong with either one. If I had the money I would have both. But I don't and I'm more than happy with my AK's. Buy what you can afford to practice with and practice a lot.

I am a tinkerer, the modular design or the AR, the insane number of quality component manufacturers, the availability of high end commercial and cheap surplus ammo, and domestic manufacturers make the AR the easy choice for me. Also I have found that while quality can be hit or miss with either platform, it has been easier for me to vet AR manufacturers than AK manufacturers. I am a big believer in buying a gun once and never looking back; I am not sure I trust myself to make an educated choice among AK variants with confidence.

One possible exception. CZ VZ 58...commonly assumed to be an AK variant, the VZ 58 is a unique system with some design improvements on the AK. Look into one if you are looking for a unique, high quality rifle that will run 7.62x39. Not sure if there is any part interchangeability with the AK (magazines included), but I doubt it.

J&G is a real shop in Prescott but are known for lower quality high volume firearms.
They usually sell CAI AKs. Century arms has a bad reputation for building firearms.
Hard to believe you can screw up an AK but they seem to have more complaints than any other builder.
You also need to figure FFL fees involved with shipping to you.
See what is local and then you can see it upclose before buying one.

    J&G is fine.

Atlantic Firearms as well... I have a really nice waffen werks AK74 I bought through them. Love it!

Personally I'd shy away from the WASRs unless you know that they will hand pick you once that is straight and the mags fit well and tight and everything looks solid. Otherwise I'd say you need to find one in person if you're hell bent on a WASR.

    http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storecategory90.aspx

Aim surplus sometimes has some AKs too.

My FFL charged me 25$ to transfer but I uhh well you know you could possibly save tax on a 500$ + purchase, bout evens it out with ffl fee and shipping but you end up ahead because all the locals want $$$ for POS rifles.
