i just bought a new dresser that has a hinged top on it with a storage tray underneath. it it about 5 feet tall and with small kids in my house, they cannot reach it. it is 2 feet from my bed and that is where my .40 resides with two ten round magazines next to it. i know i can pop one in and chamber a round with my eyes closed. i also keep the tactical flashlight on the windowsill next to the bed where i can reach it without being able to see.

before that, i used to keep it in my unfinished closet on one of the 2x4 headers above the door. it was easy to grab there but i did have to open the closet door to get to it. not as effective but again, i had to keep it out of reach of the kids.

my shottie (benelli nova tactical) is posing more of a problem. i have to find a spot for it that is not accessible to the kids yet is within reach if i need it. i'd rather that be the first weapon i grab, but it's looking like the pistol is going to have to do for now.

This is where I keep my 1911, mounted under a small table next to my bed in a night hawk holster I had, had to do some custom work to mount the holster onto the table but ended up very sturdy and easy access...

I try not to keep anything interesting or eye catchy under the table just in case if that somebody that's not suppose to be in the house is.

I keep them where they are effective without delay or noise. It may or may not be a gun. That is all.
