Addiction help

Ok it's not really a bad addiction but I cant seam to leave the range with out shooting 250-300 rounds. I know I am probably in the early stages of my addiction but I use to be able to only shoot a box or 2 now I'm up to 5-6 ever trip! luckley I opted for the 9mm to shoot on a regular basis since the 45 would really add up.
How many rounds (pistol) do you guys average at the range? Does this addiction have a natural progression? It was only a month or so ago I was getting recomindations on what gun to buy now I have 2 sigs and a new addiction

 

Whew! I was thinking meth addiction or heroin maybe oxicottins........

Yeah I can see that now, can't edit the title on my phone so hopefully it's not offending anyone. I had ear surgery so I have to stay out of the water for 2 months so I found a new way to use my time wisely. And once again I found a expensive hobby...

 

Pace yourself man. 200 rounds of .223 is all I do. That takes up about 2 hours

 

Nothing wrong with having a little fun!
However, 2 options:
1. Take only 2 boxes with you when you go to the range.
2. Instead of just chasing rounds through the gun, set up a challenge that takes longer to finish, i.e. different targets at different distances etc. work on posture, trigger control etc. this will make you slow down. For every round, slow down, set up, think about the shot, etc. so you don't just go semi-automatic style through rounds.

Only yesterday I said something like "don't listen to some gun nuts" in regards to caliber. Guess I'm on that path
I do try not to just squeeze off rounds for the sake of punchin holes as I still have lots to learn but I do appreciate some of the ideas.

 

i pry shoot over 2,000 pistol rounds a year, all handloads

 

I usually shoot 250-300 every 3 or 4 weeks.

 

When I go to the range now I'll usually do 150-250 rounds doing just regular target/accuracy shooting, then move to my drills I have about 10 rounds that have sand rather than gun powder and the blast caps are shot out so they simulate real rounds but won't go boom to practice FTF. I usually drop a few in a bag and pick them randomly so that I won't know which one is going to jam. Then do firing from a holster and re-holstering, I'll then do target acquisition drills with steel plates where I face away from the plats while someone else sets them up when they are clear I'll turn around a shoot all of the painted targets. Overall when I goto the range I'll do about 3-400 rounds total, that is using the same ammo that is in my G22 when I have it stored in my home for HD so it comes out around $80-$100 per trim for ammo alone.

 

Yeah, but a green or red one. And invest the rest into books, powder and bullets.

 

If I could find a range that allowed one to draw from a holster and fire that would be usefull practice. Only way I can do that out here is to head out in the desert.
I have been considering a loader as it would be nice to learn the entire process from loading to landing lead on target. Anyone have a link to a good reloaded and the info to go along with it? If not I'll be googling this weekend.

you might consider getting involved in a USPSA or IDPA league, ..you'll shoot 100-150 rounds each event, .and it's dynamic stuff that will keep you on your toes!

 

I agree wiley. I shot IPSC for many years. Great tool for sight alignment and trigger control.

 

I average 400-500 rounds every time I go... fortunately it's mostly 9mm.

I kept all my empties from last year so I have a good stock of brass for when I finally get around to buying some reloading gear. I have 9 .50 cal. ammo cans full of brass!

 

My boss shoots USPSA. He's been trying to get me into it. I just don't have the money haha. Too many expensive hobbies.

 

There is no known treatment for your addiction. Symptoms of further progress are: Bulk ammo purchases, bulk magazine purchases and development of black rifle disease.

 

I'll usually run around 100 rounds through each gun I take when I go to the range. Unfortunately the only range I have acess to is a static, "from the bench" range
