I was weary of it being 200 as well. But, our family friends last hog weighed in at 160 something. And he said this one is a little bigger. But, not as big has his 350 pounder last year...

And our friend is taking backstrap, neck roast, and something else. 98% of the meat their family eats is venision that they kill. We still had to buy another freezer.

As far as setup I used a remington 25-06 with a factory remington load 100 grains and I was probably 65 yards away. We had a 30-06 with us as well; But, it wasn't needed. He didn't move an inch fell over right in his tracks. Thats usually my set up for coyotes lol

I am a city boy gone country...

I just noticed this picture makes me look 10.

Any suggestions on getting my trophys out of the mouth? My dremel just died on me a few weeks ago.

hogs are weird. they look huge!! but every one i have guessed 200lbs was woefully short when i hoisted it up to the scale. i think i have my eyes calibrated now. my first hog, i thought was 250..i pulled it up and it was 148. duh!

that is a wonderful trophy. be proud.

Ya. I'll post pics of how I did mine later but start here.
1. Slit from forehead down to nose.
2. Start peel it all back, skin the head.
3. Get as much meat off as possible.
4. Either bury the head or find a lil trash can or laundry basket, (with holes in the sides) and put soil in it with the head.
5. Throw water on it to get it moist and keep in moist for a few months, let the maggets and bugs eat it out.
6. Teeth should come out then.

If you want to bleach it after that, clean it real good, soak for a day or two in hydrogen peroxide (not bleach) and let the sun dry it.

I'll post pics later when I'm on my comp

Hopefully the head doesn't smell anything like antlers.
Fully submerge the teeth?
Do i keep top and bottom tusks? He was a fighter; One side tusks aren't worth keeping(my opinion)

ya no problem man. so ill just clarify a little for you. The teeth are a pain in the ass to get out. the roots are deep and the teeth go deeper in the jaw then you probably think. i had the head in my back yard and you coudlnt smell it at all.

in the bucket or whatever you have fully cover the skull. a little out isnt bad cuz ittl attract the flys an maggots. the holes in the bucket with let the water drain and more shit get in there to eat it all clean.

theres three skulls, my first pig which i found the skull in teh woods, and did the hydrogen peroxide on. then one that was professionally euorpean mounted by beetles eating it all away. then mine that i skinned and burried but DIDNT hydrogen it.

attached are some pics. first is the first pig i killed and found the head after where i field dressed it. then the professional one. then the one i did. the rest of the pics are from the last skull. the pig itself. then the pig skull skinned. then the teeth out (the two bigger one campared to a buddys tooth and q tip.) then another pic of it done. (the nose of the one i did and skinned is fucked up cuz my dog got to it and chomped the nose off)

so all in all depeneding on what you want. the skinning and burring and watering the soil so it stays moist is needed to get the teeth out.

Awsome man. I was going to pull the teeth and toss the head but after seeing those pictures i might keep the whole head. If I do pull the teeth just use pliers?

I should be getting my meat and head back any day now. If I have any q's ill let you know. You gave some good instructions and visuals.

Thank you for helping me

ya let me know if you need aynthing. shoot me a pm. easier for me that way. and NO PLYERSS!!!! ull break the teeth before you get it out if you done let the bugs eat it all away. only way to get it out is do what i told ya above. the bugs will eat away the meat and lossen it up. and the mottoms will just remove by you pulling them. boiling doesnt work either, the teeth will crack and splinter.

BTW, just did my dads bear claws today, same technique. i cut the claws off at the knuckles and burried them. if i member ill let you know how they turned out in a month or two.
