my Cinnamon Bear 2012

Just back from my Spring Bear hunt in Northern Saskatchewan. I was hunting a big boar that I had seen the night before but when this cinnamon color phase bear walked in I just couldn't resist. It will make a great rug with the thick spring coat.

Gorgeous bear, but did you only do it for the trophy, or do you eat the meat as well?

 

Where were you in Northern Sask? I'm originally from Regina and we used to go camping/canoeing up North every year when I was growing up. It is such a beautiful area and a great spot for fishing and hunting, as you have just proven!

 

Great bear , especially with stick and string.

What happens to the bear? Do you eat it? Keep it the fur and make a rug? Or just shoot the poor beast and call it a day?

I don't hunt so I am asking a real question here.

This bear came from Lake Carswell area which is in the NW corner of Saskatchewan which is 12 hours NW of Saskatoon by truck. I was hunting on the DENE Indian reservation land with an Indian guide.

2 Hunters, tons of bears, and plenty of huge boars. I had seen a 500lb boar the night before while walking into my stand so i was hoping he would return. But when this color phase bear walked out, I could not resist even though he was much smaller maybe around 240 lbs. The other guy shot a blackie that was over 400 lbs.

For you PETA types or non hunters, the meat was not wasted. Some was ate at camp and the rest was donated to the local Indian population that lined up to get it. Maybe take the time to learn about animal population control and the affects of overpopulation if you think animal numbers do not need to be controlled.

I am returning next year to get me a 500 lber with a 20" + skull for a wall mount as always, with a bow. I have walls full of mounts that were taken with a bow as it is more of a primitive challenge that way.

People who kill animals for pleasure or trophy alone are not hunters, they are simply killers. There is a difference.

On this reservation you have to participate in the local Indian ritual of giving thanks to nature and you perform a couple tasks to give back to the land. It was an honorable experience.

 

Thanks for that bit of information. I am not a hunter but understand the difference in hunter types. Glad to see nothing was wasted and that you participated in the community as well. If only all hunters were this responsible.

 

Yes, I do know about controlling animal populations, etc... he was just a pretty bear.

bear meat is stupid delicious!! well, not a dumpster diving bear.

that is a great bear!! i havent taken a bear yet..and honestly dont know that i ever will. we each have our target animals..and bear has not made the list yet. we have a great population here in california. i see them all the time bowhunting deer. i just never have a tag in my pocket.

 

I'm not with PETA (I think they are insane) but I had a few friends who would hunt and just leave the whatever they killed out where it died. Take pic's and move on. That pisses me off. I don't care if hunters hunt and eat the meat, make stuff from the hide, whatever, just use the animal since you killed it.
