Opens up the 15th for me. Here's some recent trail cam pix of mamma and three cubs. (I don't intend and won't shoot mamma bear). They have came into my elk area where I have been throwing salt licks, apples, and wet cob.
(it's illegal to shoot bears over bait anyway in my state)

So maybe I'll find a good bear with no cubs a long ways away from my deer/elk bait sites. We'll see.

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
Taking this year off. There's 180lbs of bear meat left in the freezer from last year, skull is back from the cleaners, and I'm still waiting on my @$($%( pelt.

Also, my back has requested that I not hand-drag any 400lb animals out of the woods this year. :)

GREAT THREAD! out season down here doesnt start till the 18th. (CA is dumb, and they pair it up with the deer seasons. Well B Zone deer season.) so bow only from 18th-sep 9th. then rifle 15th and stay open till quota of 1700 or december 30th.

I'm not either.. Went with a buddy today to look for signs. Probably should have started the process weeks ago but oh well. I have like four months or something.

Saw a nice boar up in the high country a couple weeks ago, but way to far to go for a stinky ol' bear haha. One came up and knocked one of my trail cameras off my tree... Haha hope you guys get nice bears! Goodluck

Yeah - I definitely see bear turds at the tree farm when I hike around but I have not yet seen one in person. I think I need to be a lot quieter :)

I have to check on the laws first - I believe we are allowed to call but not allowed to bait. Do you see much sign of bear around your cabin?

Yeah no baiting but calling is fair game haha. I see a little bit here and there when I'm going up the road on my dirtbike. My cabin is prime hunting ground for deer and elk. Every winter we wake up a couple times to 200+ elk surrounding our house, just hangin out. The sweet part is that number isn't an exageration haha

I went hunting up in Mount Vernon today, we see bear signs in my neighborhood like every week so we headed off into the woods nearby where hunting is legal, but we couldn't find any signs. We are gonna head up north about an hour where bear hunting is more common.

Heard a lot of good things about bow hunting - it's kinda fascinating. Something for the future ;)

It actually works out pretty well. All the deer hunting pressure, especially in northern D zones and in B zones, gets the bears moving. Every bear I've seen, except one up near Covelo, I've seen because other hunters were pushing deer.

If you pull a tag for a late season deer hunt, it's a good chance to fill a bear tag with a really fat bear late in the year. My last one was pretty good, but a month later he'd have been another 50-60 lbs.

The busted upper canine was like that when I took him. I think he got into a scrap with something (another bear or a mountain lion). His skull shows other battle scars, too (with evidence of healing). He was a tough SOB.

Ha nice. Ya I am fine with the bear regs here. We always take late season trips up to covelo. When I get home I'll post a pic of my dads bear he got 2 years ago. I had two good chances last year with my bow, but wind fucked me once, and some db in a disel. I want my first one to be with a bow... But ill still whack one with a rifle if i get the chance. Saw a lot last year with my rifle too just always too far to stalk.
One day??? I suggest now. I'm up in a zone right now for the rest of archery for deer. And pigs. This full moon sucks tho

Tell me about it. Was up scouting high in D5 this weekend. The deer have (mostly) gone nocturnal. Full moon plus the heat. Saturday was misery hiking ridges, but I found some good info.

Last night? I thought the world was ending. We got one hell of a storm over Ebbett's Pass between 8pm and 3am. That got the deer moving this morning. These suckers are FAT this year.

Also saw a nice bear. About 500lb, ass-end toward me. Easy shot at 220 once he stepped away from the bush. Alas, not the season and don't want one this year.

Bucks are haunting my dreams. :)
