IMO I would spend a little money now and get something you can grow into... I didnt think about that when I bought mine and now I have to keep my ammo stored outside the safe which I dont like

I dont have anywhere to put a big safe right now..I can't put an 800# safe on a second floor, I dont think thats wise. I'm not going to put it in the basement, too damp, and I dont have a garage.:(

I was in lowes today, and found this safe. It weighs 245LBS. Do you think I would be ok putting it on a second floor?

that shouldnt be a problem...and if it bothers you...just place it above a floor joist

i spent probably 6-8 months looking for a safe

    i settled on a Champion

    http://www.championsafe.com/

bang for buck IMO is much better than what you get with most other brands found in stores AND they sell smaller safes that are probably in line of what you're looking for...and they have 3 dealers in new jersey

Intresting..The one dealer is the place I bought my 9mm from:D

Maybe i'll have to take a ride there. I'm more concerned about weight/price right now since it will be on a second floor.:(

375 is too much I think. It is going in a house that was built in 1939:eek:

I'm worried about weight, and the plaster walls/cielings that it will be over.

that home is probably better built than most stuff today

find a floor joist and put it over that...and again...that's the heavier of the smaller safes...and really i have no idea how much weight can be put on any given spot in an upstairs...as i live on the ground floor of an apartment with a concrete pad

If you think that is too heavy for one spot, use a couple of 2x6's or 2 x 8's a couple of feet long to spread the weight out over several joists

wildjersey..no problem with that safe on the second floor.

i am almost positive that load is below the minimum design load of an average home.. hell, some fat dude weighing in above 300lbs could stand in the same corner and never affect the house right?

    go for it.

..i was in a similar situation, ...which is why i recommended the snapsafe product earlier, ..i couldn't be happier w/ mine, i was able to place it where i wanted it myself, and bolt to the wall... also, whatever you decide, go w/ something tall enough to hold at least a few long guns, ...don't limit your options now, anticipate what you may want to store in the future... ;)

I found a similar one in Dicks today, and its cheaper. It can hold I think 10 long guns, fire rated, and it will fit where I want it to go.

Plus, I have a coupon, so I think its $30 off anything over $175:)

The safe is $349, on sale from $499

    sounds good...

here is a great reference guide for buying safes. it explains many of the myths and vendor hype.... keep in mind, anything under $1500 is not really a safe, but an RSC...
