    Yota-mates,

Thinking of buying the S&W 22A with 7" barrel for plinking:

Tired of wasting big money at the range...

    Anyone have one/shot one?

Reviews I've seen indicated it's accurate and easy to take down...looking for independent verification from folks that I know are smart shoppers....and I know people who drive Tacomas are smart shoppers....

Are you dead set on a semi-auto ? S&W makes some really nice revolvers in .22 as well...a couple with multiple cylinders IIRC ( .22 long,.22 mag ). Also in that category are the Ruger MKII and the Browning Buckmark. Both great little guns...prices vary though.

I prefer the semi-autos...and looked at the Ruger/Brownings...Cost and ease of take-down are what nudged me in the S&W direction....like the stainless ruger hunter model but don't like doubling the cost for a .22....

For carry I have a Sig P239...9mm single stack (lays flat)...I prefer a little more stopping power for my duty piece...

I think the last time I looked at a Walther I was looking for a Concealed Carry piece....found out the backstrap on their 9mm also performed a safety function and could be broken off relatively easily rendering the gun a paper weight....haven't looked at em again since...

We won a couple camo 22A pistols at a FNRA banquet a few years ago. Ended up selling them both. Top-heavy, bulky, not really ergonomic. Odd magazine release placement too. The sights are nice for target work.

    22 pistols I have:

    Beretta Bobcat
    Browning Buck Mark
    Ruger MK1
    S&W 37

The 22As are the only 22 pistols I got rid of. If you haven't, be sure you try out the 5" before you order a 7" if there is such a thing. The 5" is top-heavy enough, I wouldn't want a longer barrel.

Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.
I have not shot the S&W, but I did like the grip when I handled it at the gun shop. I've got a Sig Mosquito and I like it a lot, but is a little picky on ammo (CCI minimags feed all day, other bulk ammo not as reliably).

Did you end up getting one?

I recently got a buckmark and I really like it. Accurate and easier take down than the MkIII.

    I did Kevin...I like it...the critics are accurate...top-heavy, bulky, but I knew that when I bought...(I got the 7" barrel....take down and re-assembly is a breeze....

Very accurate but without white dots, sites are difficult on older eyes like mine...probably going to score some tritium paint for em...

I've put several hundred rounds through it already - several different types of 22LR round nose ammo...Had a coupla mis-feeds...the mag release location on this weapon sits right underneath my second knuckle on the handle of the gun...If i squeeze a certain way - as in heafting and re-griping the heavy thing, I end up poping the mag out slightly which causes the mis-feeds...

Gun also has a mag safety...won't fire unless mag is inserted properly...which is actually a good first clue to you that the mag has been dislodged...
