Here is some pics of my before and after conversion. I got my conversion kit from here http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-CONVERSION-KITS-SAIGA-RIFLES/Categories and did all the work my self. That web site has some decent vids. But you can always pay someone to do it, or just buy one with the work already done. Either way, it's a great gun. Good luck

Right. Stick with the factory 10-rounders or American made hi caps and he's OK. To use foreign military mags, he's going to need to switch out other parts to stay legal.

I'd recommend doing a conversion, myself. Running a Saiga in sporter configuration with a Tapco folding stock on it is like running a spacer lift in your truck. Might look cool to the average guy but anyone who knows what it is will raise an eyebrow at it.

    ok, thanks
ooohhhhh, it's pretty, awesome, i'd just do it myself, i'm cheap that way.
awesome, i'm thinking about the conversion with the folding, collapsable stock right now (for mine of course), dad just might keep his "sported".

thank you all for the help

The dealer I got my 7.62 and 5.45 saigas from had the stock rifles for $100 less than converted using the same parts as kit 1 on that site, so I opted for him to do it since he specializes in EBR's and has done hundreds of conversions to sell. This was 2 years ago (7.62) and 6 mo ago (5.45) so I don't know how much prices have changed.

I did my conversion for cheaper, and a better grip as well. If you mix n match on the site, you can do it cheaper, but if you opt for them to put something together for you, they add on the price.

I started to ask you what the h**l is that hanging off the trigger guard then I looked where you are from. Must be some magazine blocking device? From Texas, just never seen such an item on an AK.

yep,it's a AK bullet button, makes it impossible to release the mag without a tool, they're about become illegal (if the law passes) and all semi-auto rifles with detachable mags will be banned.

Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.
Are the stamped sheet metal plates that are not yet broken over to form the receiver similar to the 80% AR lowers, where as there is no serial number and no FFL requirement? I'm interested in building a few, but was curious if they are a simple order or if I might as well wait for my FFL paperwork to come back.
