Don't forget the Keltec. I own a LCP and a Keltec same overall size/feel. The Ruger does have a little better fit/finish, but cost a tad more.

I prefer a snubbie, and pocket carry one every day. However, have you considered the Diamondback 380? A very high quality entry into the 380 pocket pistol market, though I don't know if a laser is available yet.

    http://diamondbackfirearms.com/product?id=23

Their 9mm is diminutive as well, almost to the point of scary-to-shoot. A friend carries one and likes it.

Between the two you mentioned in the original post, the LCP has a more proven record but S&W has a good reputation and I wouldn't hesitate to invest in one of their designs.

Also, I'd add that I don't use lasers because in my experience, even the high quality (Crimson Trace) lasers seem to be iffy in their ability to hold zero and battery life. I had a laser on my snubbie for a while, but I realized I was hesitating in looking for the dot before I shot. If I needed the laser and batteries were dead or the zero had been knocked wide, I would be searching for the red dot before I pulled the trigger. Didn't like that at all.

I prefer the Ruger in .380, but I carry my 1911 as much as possible.

I would go with the Ruger over the S&W. Main reason being that the laser for the S&W is made into the lower but the Ruger has the detachable version which you could upgrade to the Crimson Trace later if you want. I have the Ruger and I converted the mags to 8 rounds with two different conversion kits so now it 8+1, its a great little gun.

FWIW I have the S&W .380. It's surprisingly accurate at 10 yards. Several hundred rounds through it and not one misfire. Great gun except...the trigger pull is RIDICULOUSLY long. Surprises me every time I shoot it.

I have the Taurus 738 and have had no issues. Last week I picked up a colt defender in .45acp and so far I'm loving it.

I carry the Colt Mustang 380 auto. Which is what the Sig P238 was designed after. I also own the Ruger LCP and don't like the light weight.

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
I originally wanted to buy the LCP but in CA you have to be a Law Enforcement to buy the LCP and Bodyguard so I went with the Kahr P380 instead and very happy with it:

    None, yet...
I'll echo what several have said already. If you're not stuck on the LCP/Bodyguard, take a look at the Sig 238. It's basically a mini-1911 (which I love just due to muscle memory--I have a standard 1911), and you can carry it locked and loaded without worry of a 'no safety' gun (LCP).

However, it's much more pricey than either of the two your considering. And there's definitely nothing wrong with the S&W or Ruger...just my $0.02.

The Ruger is the last on the list for quality, ergonomics, and functionality.
