This is what I did with my daughter last year. She was taking her AR back to Seattle. She had a backpack, purse, a checked bag and rifle case. We walked inside the terminal together. I carried the rifle case because it was the heaviest. We waited in line together. When her turn came, we walked up to the check in counter. She said she was flying to Seattle, handed her ID over and said she was flying with a firearm. They called a TSA agent over. She signed the declaration and locked the case. I hugged and kissed her goodbye. She called me after she got home and said everything was easy when she picked up her luggage. It's not a big deal. I go in to the counter with her even if she's not flying with a firearm. I'm not sure how someone would view this as being illegal in any way. It's not. Must be a misunderstanding.

Then I clearly don't understand what he's asking because I didn't read his situation to be anything like what you just described.

Anyone have a recommendation for a concealed carry holster? It'll be for a Shield 40, and mainly used in warm/humid weather, and I'd rather have an inside the pants holster. I'm already looking at Simply Rugged holsters, but wanted many more opinions.

I've always heard people sing praises for Supertuck as a IWB holster.

I ordered a new lower from PSA today for my 6.8 build, I think I'm gonna keep it simple with magpul furniture and a flattop with a QD scope setup (I'm thinking 1-6 or 2-8 power scope) with flip up BUIS.

I 2nd that. Loved my Crossbreed IWB holster.

Milt Sparks VM2 is top notch as well, but when I bought mine they had like a 12 week wait or something. That was years ago though, not sure what it'd be now.

edit- just looked it up, they estimate a 10-16 week wait.

I put a Crimson Trace laser onto my Shield 9, and I use this holster every day from roughly October to April, and occasionally during the summer months too.
It's easy to slip in and out of my waistband, and it's surprisingly good at not gouging my kidneys. Plus it does a good job of holding the gun flush against the small of my back, and it fits very well in the inside pocked of my Carhartt jacket.

On the other hand, for any place on your waistband other than the small of your back, it probably wouldn't work. Also, it's not adjustable for cant. You can rock the holster sideways a bit, and it holds position pretty well, but if you prefer to have the pistol resting at a cant then this probably isn't the holster for you.

Take a look at the N82 tactical holsters. I've been running them for a couple of years now. Aside from being somewhat unconventional looking, they are the most comfortable holsters I've ever worn.

They've had the Summer Special 2 for quite some time. It obviously may work better for some people, but couple of reasons why I wouldn't recommend them.

The fasteners are too close together. Not as stable as the aforementioned holsters, and would have a tendency to tip back or forth.

The design doesn't lend itself to spreading the pressure/weight over a larger area, equating to discomfort if worn for any extended period of time. (Especially with full-size 1911s )

Considering the fasteners are on top of the pistol, that in of itself doesn't help at all in regards to concealment.

Between the Crossbreed and VM2, both are extremely comfortable and work well. And wait times aside, I think the VM2 has the edge over the crossbreed. I had to do a little trimming on the Crossbreed in order to get a proper grip (of course that could be seen as a plus) while the VM2 seemed pretty much perfect as-is. The VM2 does a better job concealing the outline of the pistol.

Have a questionf for you guys.

I live in CA, and am considering getting an XDM 9mm or .40.

Heard California law prohibits single shot exemptions effective Jan 1, 2015. What is single shot exemption? Do the Springfield XDMs fall under this law?

Single Shot Exemption is a round about way of getting a gun that isnt on the ""list" of approved firearms. Take a normal gun, convert it so it can only fire one round then you have to reload. Then you could buy it in CA (after all that normal firearms stuff). The conversions are not permanent

My understanding is you buy the gun with the SSE, do all the DROS and crap, get the gun and you could then convert back to factory configuration.

Im sure a CA person could help more but thats my understanding. I would think the XDM is on the list so no need for the SSE though
