Correct on the hollow point part. You want penetration for bears.

It's not that far away if not in the same group. I would never trust my life to any of them. Sure there's varying degrees of trust but they still all fit into that category IMO.

i have 2 taurus semi-autos that both fire every time i pull the trigger. i carry both of them as well. i keep them both clean and serviced w/o issue. i'm sure if i shot them a ton and never cleaned them i'd have a different story. only thing i've done performance wise to either is a slight polish of the feed ramp on the TCP. they may not be much above the others, but i wouldn't list in the same category.

I have had zero problems out of any Taurus that I have had. All but one has been wheel guns. The only auto that I had was a pt1911 ar that ran flawless until I sold it.

If you decide to go this route PSA has the stripped AR10 lower on sale for $129. Not a bad way to get into the AR10 arena if you decide it's for you. Building your own you'll also experience first-hand the frustrations of the AR10/LR308 platform so it will be a good exercise.

Nor would I. I've shot older Tauruses (Taurusi?) and have not been impressed. Jams, FTF's, FTE's, etc. Plus lousy fit & finish.
But my buddy in NH bought a brandy-new PT1911 and it runs like a dream right out of the box. No issues at all feeding it everything from HP's to shitty Russian stuff. Fit and finish is good, it's a very tight gun, and it groups well.
I'm not sure how I feel about their sintered parts; on the one hand, they can very precisely control the metallurgy. On the other hand, it's not forged.
 Time will tell. In the interim, though, I'm impressed with their newer stuff.

    Looks sharp!
I've heard that Duracoat can make an action gritty. You'll have to report back on how it 'feels' for us!

DuracoAt is cool! Definitely tape off the action.... I coated it without taping off no good reason. Action was extremely stiff to cycle. I took it apart again and used sand paper to clean it out. Much better. It's feels just as rough as it was before haha. Crazy how tought his sruff is...it doesn't just scratch off.

    Assembled

I'm choosing my next handguns caliber, gonna get a M&P, it'll be on nightstand duty, my primary hunting sidearm (Pig, snake, and bobcat protection) and my truck gun.

    I'm thinking .40 S&W, instead of 9mm.
If I got the .40 I might get a .357 sig barrel for it somewhere down the line.

My primary gun will be a marlin 30-30 (lever action) or my AR chambered in 6.8 SPC, but I need a pistol for a backup.

From what I've been reading .40 is the smallest i want to go for pigs.

Is the backup incase your rifle isn't working or is it in case you're out of ammo and it's charging at you? If it's the former a fmj would work, but if it's the latter I'd want something with more oomph behind it.

Rumor has it that the tannerite pig video was actually just a 45 acp with no tannerite and it was just fired in the general direction. You should get a 45

    Two things on the shield

1: The recoil spring is pretty stiff (nature of the beast) so it might be difficult for her to rack the slide. I know my girlfriend has a hard time with it.

2: This might just be me, but with a thumbs forward grip I'm resting on the slide stop and it won't lock back on an empty mag...so I have to do a funky thumb forward/thumb up grip.
