    in all seriousness:
Due to price of ammo, im going to be shooting my Mosin over my AK, SKS and AR most of the time, so why not make my primary plinker comfy and easy to use? $0.16 a round means $186 to make it comfy is worth it to me.

well damn, Amazon just emailed me saying seller canceled the order due to 'technical issues'. Im guessing they messed up on the price.

Not a matter of layout; I've just never really liked the Miatas. Always been more of an S2000 guy.

    Makes more sense now.
I opted for the .22 chambered AR a while back for just that reason. The regular AR is expensive to shoot (and that's when I can actually find ammo for it. MY S&W .22 plinker version is a heck of a lot cheaper to shoot, and all the controls are where they're supposed to be.

I wanted to go that route too, but when I bought my mosin, 7.62x54r was cheaper than .22lr

Plus I can use the mosin to hunt once I get my permit, and it goes through ammo slower hahaha

.22's still hard to find around here. You can scrounge boxes of 50, but forget about bricks. .223/5.56 is impossible to find. Completely gone, everywhere, all the time. Wal-Mart gets shipments in the AM, and they're sold out an hour after they open. And I've got better things to do (like, say, working) than to hang out waiting for Wally World to open.
Fortunately, I have the strange disease of wanting to keep lots of ammo on hand. Before everything disappeared off the shelves I had close to 10,000 rounds of .22 (since I could get a 550rd brick for $20, why not?). I've burned through about 3,000 rounds since then, but I've started shooting less lately because I haven't been able to replenish most of what I've shot.

I've started shooting my 12ga more, since I can always find crappy skeet loads to blast away with when I feel like playing with a Boomstick. I've also started doing different things when I shoot. Like, rather than playing "let's punch out the entire center of the target!" I've been playing "Let's slow down and see how small of a hole I can make with a full clip"

    Wow....
Don't think I've EVER seen that...
Although it has been easier to find (around here, at least) than .22 lately.

I'm down to around 1,000 rds of 5.56

people are buying entire shipments before they reach the shelves; sports authority is apparently letting people call dibs in advance

or other gun shops are selling them for $1-1.25/round

    i hate this

    Yeah, it's crap.
I see all these Jackasses buying calibers they don't even OWN, just so they can put it in Uncle Henry's (local version of Craigslist, but they allow guns) at a markup.

    Customer: "got any 9mm?"
    Shopkeeper: "nope"
    Customer: "got any .22?"
    Shopkeeper: "nope"
    Customer: "what DO you have?"
    Shopkeeper: "I've got a box of .40 S&W, a box of .38spl, and a box of .44 mags"
    Customer: "I'll take 'em!"

Natchez Shooters Supplies has green tips on sale for $0.45/round, which is still higher than what I pay, but here you go:

it's funny the amount of folks I get into arguments about that weapon and round for hunting, its actually a very effective round.

i ordered some 7.62x54r for the mosin last week from cheaper than dirt that the description said it was lead core. recieved it today, opened the box and i was crushed. 880 rounds of steel core. they obviously has the descriton wrong(which had been changed since i ordered it) so i called, talked to a few people and got my $34 in shipping refunded. guess ill just sit on it since i cant shoot the steel core at the range and currently dont have any private land to shoot the steel core. ended up being 20 cent pre round after shipping was refunded so i guess i cant complain too much. this happen to anyone else?

That's stupid. A cartridge that was once used to hunt men during some of the bloodiest conflicts in history will be effective on anything short of a pissed off grizzly, a massive elk or a moose.

i could have but decide it wouldnt be worth the hassle. cant find any lead core surplus ammo right now anyway and i was wanting to stock up a bit. i dont mind sitting on them for awhile until i get a place i can shoot steel core ammo.
