The difference is that a clip is NOT a magazine and a magazine is NOT a clip. That's just wrong and it's immediately apparent to anyone who knows or takes a second to learn.

I don't refer to my firearms as weapons but I'm sure as shit not going to correct someone who does. Make no mistake gentleman, these firearms were DESIGNED as weapons from the moment pen was put to paper. I don't understand correcting someone who calls them what they are.

Pictures of the gun would make it a lot easier, especially clear pictures of all the markings. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REBLUE/RESTORE it will kill any value the gun has.

From that information the caliber is .33 WCF and is not made anymore, from what I found there met be a few custom ammo companies making ammo for them. The actually bullet diameter is .338. If the gun is a lever action it would probably be a model 1886.

Here is a decent article from what I can tell on the .33 winchester cartridge

    http://www.chuckhawks.com/33_WCF.htm

I'd suspect a rifle like that could be worth a good chunk of change, I can tell you this though, I found some prices for original ammo and they were selling by the single round for 15$ per round

The ammo is still being made by buffalo arms and is $54.00 per box which is actually cheaper than some modern short mags. If I personally owned the gun I would order a box or two of the new ammo shoot it

Also, you can get a Cody museum letter for old winchester guns. They have all of winchesters old records. I believe it costs around $25 and will tell you when it was made and how it came from the factory. I'm getting one for my 1914 winchester model 1894 this summer.

    Thank's Pat,
thats some good info, more than I have been able to find.
Had an old timer at the local gun shop look at it and he said it was worth about 2200.00 and the boxes of shells 100.00 a box, so maybe he was loballin me and it's worth more?

and I'll check out that Cody museum

Could be worth more or less just depending on a lot of different things. When it comes to the old winchesters the smallest thing can skyrocket the value. I'd say the boxes of ammo may have been a lowball then again may not have been the place I saw was a collectors website selling single rounds for cartridge collecting I think

The gun value on the other hand could have been close or far. Guns are like gold, the value fluctuates.

I was wrong on the letter price they are $60 but if they show that your rifle was a special order or something it can increase value.

    Thanks again Pat,

Its nice to get info like this, just wish there was a way to discern its value as we all know appraisal's are like opinion's.
Not only that, but having the personnal history of this gun would be nice, but that won't happen as my dad past along time ago and wouldn't say much about it when he was here

Best bet is to figure out exactly which 1886 you have, whether it's a lightweight/takedown/whatever

When I'm shopping, I'll search gunbroker for auctions people are actually bidding on and use that to get an idea of value

A guy I work with today was talking about how he wanted to get a handgun and we were just bs'ing about what caliber and brand and what not and then another guy (new to our unit and just turned 21) chimed in with a few things by just agreeing to what I was saying and then he stated that he bought an Osprey silencer for his AR. He said he ordered it a few weeks ago and it will be ready in August and it was $700. Does that sound about right? I could have sworn it took a year at least for all the paperwork and background checks to go through. I also thought that silencers were much closer to $1k. Just curious. I think it would be cool to own one but I don't really have a use for one to go through all the hassle.

Price is accurate depending on where he bought & estimated wait could be accurate assuming he eFiled & there's no further issues that come up with the eFile system.

Noted. For some reason I was thinking the paperwork and permits could take up to 2 years along with a $1200 price tag
