So when I joined the military my step-dad gave me an old colt .22 revolver. It had the grip replaced with an awesome wood one but everything is in great shape. I tried to run the serial number on it and it came back that the serial number group was from the 1884-1885 range.

My question is should I hang on to this and just get the 9mm that I really want for my CWP or just trade this one in and hopefully break even? I am not sure of the value without the original grip.

    Any thoughts is greatly appreciated.

    Looks like this.

I'd keep it. I don't plan on ever selling off any of my firearms, just building the collection as I go.

Keep it, modern guns can be had at any time. That is a classic that will be hard to replace. You will kick yourself in the can one day if you let that great gift go. Pistols like that are to be passed on down the line, not sold. JMHO

This is a Colt Frontier Scout .22 that was given to my wife by her mother. It will go to our daughter one day.

    This.

Manufactured prior to 1898 (and not on the exempted list) it is classified as an "antique" and is not legally considered a "firearm".

    My apologizes to the OP.

Then you should appreciate this. My grandfather owned a hardware store in upstate NY and gave this to my dad when he was sixteen. A Gen 1 1933 Colt SAA .45LC "Rubber Blue" in the original cardboard box it shipped in. This too will go on to my daughter as it did to me.
