Finally got around loading for my .458 socom. Loaded 10 rounds to check function and making a ladder from there. 40 grains of reloaded 7 under a 300 grain JHP. When I do my ladder I'm going to chrono them at the same time, hoping for around 1800-1900 fps out of them

I also just got ahold of 50 pieces of nickel brass .45 colt that I'm going to load with some warmer loads

And one more, does anyone have any good loads for 45-70? For a 16" contender?

I stopped at 41.5 grains of RL7 on my 300 JHP's. I did some 42's and a few had some pressure signs so I backed down for case life/safety. I was averaging around 1855 FPS at 41.5.

    Thanks!

I'm on spring break right now, but will be loading them up when I get back, when I find a load that I really like I'll load every bit of brass that I have, then try and shoot the .458 upper on a machine gun lower

Make sure you video it. FA 458 is awesome. Really lean into it good!

Most of the LC brass that I have looks like the primer pocket has been bored and sleeved. Not sure if they do that, but that's what it looks like. I have the hardest time getting primers to seat properly....to the point that I'm about to stop trying.

When I started doing this, I never thought I'd be happier to find PMC brass than LC...

First chance at almost anything and at a GREAT deal! Usually 1sts are like a buck more a box for me over 2nds. But they all shoot great. I prefer the box with 1sts over the bag with seconds.

Well I had a reloading kit and never got around to setting it up and finally my good friend/neighbor got me motivated to get it done...I got to use his shop since mine has no electric/or heat ;) but anyways we got everything set up and I shot my first 2 reloads of 308. I ended up reloading 30rds of 180gr SST w/42grs of IMR 4064. I shot 2 test rounds to see if it would cycle and they shot well. I need to shoot a couple more to see how consistent/accurate they are. My friend reloaded 20 match 168gr Speer bullets with 42gr of 3031. He fired one round and it worked great. Its fun, slow to get set up but about half the price of factory ammo. Interesting how you think you have everything you need and end up needing some more things...;)

    Looking for anything particular?

I know if I never bought another component, I could shoot something for the next 30 years on a regular basis. Every time I think I'm well stocked, some new bullet comes out I want to try, or I buy a rifle in a cartridge I've been wanting to reload for, and start the collection process over again. I hope one of these days I can stop buying and just try to shoot up what I have.
