Anyone want to let me borrow a Primer pocket swage? Ive got a shit ton of 5.56 that I need to decrimp but I dont want to drop money on something that I wont use that often.

I could hook someone up with either a sack of 556 brass or a couple AR mags?

I'd be glad to lend one if I had one. Just sell a AR mag, that will more than cover the cost of a tool.

lol true. I was reading a lot about the different kind of swagers and it looks like the dillion version of it is the best/quickest/easiest but its $100. Maybe I should sell two mags on Ebay for $300... :anonymous: haha

I initially thought reloading would save me money too, but doing my research...i believe it'll save me only on certain calibers like Ben said

.44mag aint cheap and i'm sitting on approx. 650 cases that need bullets etc...i got the cases for i think .05 per...

i cant recall the numbers i came up with shopping, but it'll work out in the long run that I don't have to buy factory rounds

The other calibers i'm planning on learning are not as easily acquired lately so i'm planning on reloading because of that and that alone...

I have found the same thing with certain rounds. For me 45acp is cheaper and easier to buy in bulk. I know that if you crunch the numbers reloading is slightly cheaper but its not worth the time it takes to reload them.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
One thing that will help minimize costs (and potential safety issues) is using the same powder for your ammunition. I do not mean sharing between rifle and pistol as those are two different powders and serious harm can be caused upon ones self if you put pistol powder in a rifle cartridge. For clarification, use the same smoekless rifle powder in your rifle loads and the same pistol powder in your pistol loads. However, you may find this may not be possible as some firearms can be "picky".

Varget is supposed to be a great rifle powder suitable for many types of ammo.

my grandpa has a 223 die somewhere so i think i'm gonna try to find it in the next few months and make a batch of 68 grain BTHP for coyotes.
anybody think i'm approaching this wrong? my AR has a 18'' barrel and a 1-8'' twist.

hopefully its the die set and not just one die. you need the bullet seating die and the sizer/de primer die.

it should be the set, he used to reload for his AR back in the 80's and he just put his reloading gear in storage and lets family borrow it.

it's tempting to try to find his shotgun setup with 12 gauge being almost non existent around here and when you can find it its 8$ a box of 25

I'm really close to starting to reload...

I shoot a lot of 45LC (ruger new model black hawk) and i'm thinking I can save a lot of money reloading it....I have something like 400 rounds (or more) of once fired brass, and from the calculator link that 98tacoma27 posted, and after I did a bit of googling, it looks like i can reload 50 for like 15 bucks (assuming I have brass already). I currently buy 50 round boxes for like 40-50 bucks easy, and when I get self defense loads or the hornady lever action loads it is even more.

do yall think that it would be worth getting the equipment?

    I will also be loading my 7mm-08, 30-30, 30-06, and my 40 (when I turn 21)

I should have a tax return coming (hopefully) and will have a bit of money to throw on the reloading equipment

any advice on where to start equipment wise?

A good friend of mine said he would teach me so I shouldn't have any problem learning

23.8 grains of varget with a 60 grn hornady sp on top is deadly accurate out of my ar. It fired three shots in pretty much the same hole at 100 yrds.

    http://www.rcbs.com/guide/step_by_step_reloading.aspx#

Thanks for the info. Finally got my shell holder, Lyman manual, and bullets in today from Natchez. I've got 55 gr nossler varmageddon and some 60gr nossler ballistic tips. I plan on loading up some tomorrow evening.

Ok, so the more I think about it the more I want to start reloading. I have a tax return coming up and I'm thinking about putting it towards reloading equipment.

Could anyone recommend a good all around kit for reloading?

The calipers I would be reloading are
    45 lc, 30-06, 7mm-08, 30-30

I would eventually be loading others like .40, 223, and a few others

I would appreciate the help guys

I would guesstimate (haven't done taxes yet, w2 is at home and I'm at school) I'll have about 600 to spend on everything (would have more but want a new scope too, I can put the scope off if need be) 45 colt is the first thing I want to start with (gives me the best savings I think) and I have a few hundred empty brass for it, once fired.

I like rcbs over hornady for reloading equipment but that's my personal preference
