Slater is currently in the Gwinnett Medical Center, receiving treatment for his injuries, which deputies described as serious. A family member told WSB-TV that Slater was on a ventilator and had endured puncture wounds to his lungs, liver and stomach.

+Rep for her. Husband called the police, waited till she was cornered, emptied the revolver, left the house and brought the kids to a neighbor's.

Hope my wife would have the sense and courage to do what that woman did. Hate it 'cause mine is scared of handguns and thinks that everyone in the world is trustworthy. Bravo to this woman, glad she and her children are okay and they made it through what could have been a real tragedy.

I missed this thread first time around and was getting ready to post it today ... when I found it ... :D

I was visiting an old military buddy with ALS and he lives fairly close to Loganville (outside Atlanta) where this "hero lady" lives.

This is truly an inspiring story as she put 5 rounds in a single intruder's head & neck area  while protecting her children.

More reasons why "high capacity magazines/clips" are important even for home defense.

Link to story and video --> http://myfox8.com/2013/01/06/ga-mom-shoots-intruder-5-times-saves-children/

    Part of the story below:

LOGANVILLE, Ga. — A Georgia mother hid her two 9-year-old twins and shot an intruder, Paul Ali Slater, several times during a home invasion on Friday, according to multiple media reports.
The Loganville mother said she didn’t initially answer when someone knocked on her door around 1 p.m. Friday. When the visitor began repeatedly ringing the doorbell, she called her husband at work, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
He then dialed 911 and his 37-year-old wife gathered their 9-year-old twins and hid them in a crawlspace inside the home.
According to the report, the intruder then forced his way into the home and started “rummaging” through the family’s belongings.
When the suspect went into the closet where the family was hiding ,the woman fired six bullets at the suspect, five of which hit alleged suspect Paul Ali Slater in the face and neck area.
“He opens the closet door and finds himself staring down the barrel of a .38 revolver,” Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The woman fled to a neighbor’s home with her children. The woman and her two children were not injured.
The injured intruder stumbled out of the home and attempted to flee in his car. However, he crashed into a wooded area and collapsed in a neighbor’s driveway, according to WSB-TV.
The suspect was arrested at the scene. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive.
The victim’s husband said he’s proud of his wife.
“My wife is a hero. She protected her kids. She did what she was supposed to do as responsible, prepared gun owner,” Donnie Herman told WSB-TV.

EDIT: Last local news had the intruder who was shot in very critical condition.

Haven't seen more specific description. All I can think of is that the perp ducked as he was backing away or fell to the ground head first. Thus a neck shot would continue into the main body cavity

also this is why we should not ban high cap mags. even thou she had a revolver some people may have a glock or XD or something. What if there was 2 bad guys and she had a xd or glock and shot one guy more than 6 times she may not be able to shoot the other guy.

Also caliber of a gun DOES play a roll in how many times you may have to shoot someone and how bad there injuries will be. For instance a 45 as a hell of a lot more knock down power and energy than say a 9mm and many other hand gun calibers. a 45 will also put a lot bigger hole and cause more damage than a 9mm. or hell even a .40.
