Carrying one not in the chamber is just plain dumb, I feel you wouldn't have time to rack the slide.

Why is it dumb? I carry with one in the chamber, have for 15 years now. I have never had a ND, and I have never had a close call. I know there is one in the chamber. I treat all guns as if they are loaded. So what is the difference? What would scare me, is if I had to use the gun and it went click because I didn't have one in the chamber.
Treat all guns as if they were loaded and you will never have a problem. Keep them away from the kids, untrained, and uninformed unless supervised and taught how to properly handle a gun.
I have never heard of a gun accidentally going off in a holster.

I was talking to FTD. Even though it probably won't matter.

You live in San Bernardino County. As long as your background is clean, you WILL be issued a permit if you are willing to jump through the SD's hoops.

The permit is good in every county in California.

Carrying without a round chambered is like carrying a dull knife and saying I'll sharpen it when I need to use it. Or having a Taco with an empty gas tank saying I'll fill it when I need to use it. Ect, ect, ect...

The new Sheriff streamlined the process a bit, but while Hoops would issue with "personal protection" being your only "reasonable cause", the new policy wants something a little more specific.

Crestline, I would think that protection from animals while hiking or mountain biking would be good.

    .

One cool guy aka a "Real Life Dirty Hairy Type" ... veteran with a fast and smooooth draw stopping a robber & letting him walk away alive too (cool under fire and class too = rare combo) --> video --> http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/...d=maing-grid7|main5|dl2|sec3_lnk1&pLid=368765

The good guy's gun deflection and draw ... kinda reminded me of "Lethal Weapon 1" where Mel Gibson (plays 3 stooges routine) and takes the gun away from bad guy and "fast draws" on him ... but this was in real life ... not a movie ... :D
    .
Video above ... and text below (did he have a chambered round  :) ?
    .

Next time, he should probably just put his cigarette out.

A Marionville, Mo., liquor store clerk was working his shift on Sunday night when a would-be robber walked in smoking a cigarette, according to WUSA.

When Jon Lewis Alexander told him to put it out, the man reportedly told Alexander to handover the cash in his register.

Instead, Alexander "used his left hand to push the robber's handgun back while -- in a smooth but rapid motion -- pulling and swinging his 9 mm into the robber's face," WUSA reports. The man then walked out of the store without causing any further ruckus.

Store owner Jeannine Dawson told the News-Leader that only Alexander, a veteran and former prison guard, is allowed to take a gun to work.

"I don’t know what I would say if someone else asked to carry a gun,” Dawson said. “Jon’s the exception.”

The Kansas City Star reports that police are still looking for the would-be robber.

This looks fake... security cams do not move. Why does the anchor position of the camera keep changing?

    But Tiger is right.

If you watch the video, it's "shaky" like it was taken with a hand-held.
But in the image, the DVR control bar remains at a fixed location, as do the date and time.

It is probably a cheap foreign DVR with proprietary software that does not export to a standard format. The traffic management center at my city has 8 such DVRs and it's a pain when we get a request from the PD for traffic video.

Yes... it was a video taken of the scene playing on a color monitor.

Every firearm that I feel is safe to carry chambered is, but that only adds up to one; my Beretta 92F and I keep it on half cock for drop safety. My revolvers are full and double action so ready, but all have drop safety except my black powder revolver but it has cylinder safety notches so it's probably the only drop safe BP revolver (Remington 1858 replica-Pietta). My other BP guns all stay on half cock so safe. My rifles & shotguns are all loaded but not chambered and there are three reasons. I don't know that they are drop safe, I don't like leaving firing pin springs compressed, and Most importantly-none of them I consider my primary home defense weapon. If they were I'd verify they're drop safe and replace springs regularly as maintenance. The springs are probably ok to leave compressed, but when your life depends on it-?- They are secondary and ready, but do require the racking to fire. Besides we all KNOW that racking a 12ga. loudly will clear out any threat, right?? ;-)

Oh I forgot-I only carry on my property as I live in L.A., Ca. and a CCW is unobtanium here.

On my side is generally my stainless S&W .38 because it's small, stainless (less worry about what I'm doing that it's exposed to), and easy to carry. Tho probably overkill, I regularly empty, inspect, clean and reload all of my primary weapons. On the nightstand is the 92F with 16 little 147gr. lifesavers. In my desk immediately in front of me right now is a .44 BP revolver at max load and to my right is a .30 carbine.....the rest to be discovered by a bad guy.
