Sounds like a good lower setup. One thing I try to keep in mind is relative cost. $900 is a budget build for an AR, but it opens up a whole world of firearms. If you're buying a toy, are you sure you wouldn't rather have a 1911? Or an HK pistol? A tricker out 12 gauge and a case of shells? Any of the wonder nine pocket pistols? Sometimes I plan a project then I take a step back and think of what that $ could buy and end up going a different direction. Just something to think about.

Yeah I already have all those toys plus AK's, Mosin's and several bolt action rifles. Don't have an AR so have started looking in their direction.

I hear you. One of everything helps you figure out what you really like. I've been switching it up lately too. In the last few months I've traded an AK for a M&P, a FN shotgun for another M&P and an XD for an 870 project gun.

If anyone is looking at Colt ARs, it would be worth checking out a local FFL by the name of Southwest Arms run by John S. He is an authorized Colt, Bushmaster, Sig, Ruger, Glock, and S&W dealer. He's been selling Colt's LE6920 for under $1,100 w/ full Magpul factory upgrades. He has them in black, FDE, and OD. He is the only person or business from whom I'll ever buy a gun -- after many transactions. He's a great guy. You can see a sampling of his inventory on Armlist using a search "Southwest Arms." He ships (to an FFL near you of course).

God I love Tacoma World!!! Great thread.

I believe that was someone's way around the mag capacity ban, since thqybwould be considered individual mags.

Anyone in states with banned mag, I've got a question for y'all. If you bought or built a .458 socom AR could you buy new 30 round ar mags for it because only 10 .458 rounds fit in it?

Any modifications required to make it feed 223/556? If not it would probably have to be stamped .458 socom on it

I know it was discussed YEARS ago when the SOCOM first got popular (long before RRA got in the game). At that time the concencious was that those in ban states would be limited to 10rd 223 mags which hold about 3rds of SOCOM. I don't know if anything has changed since then. At that point I believe it was more group assumption and speculation than anything else. I think the only thing that could really change that arguement is if the SOCOM was your ONLY AR. IE there were no illegal configurations it could be used in. Again that's just speculation.
