    Thug: give me your wallet!
Law abiding citizen: hand on, it's in this locked case.
Thug: is that a gun case?
Law abiding citizen: uhh no, it's my wallet case....
    Thug: bang!

    California laws are great.[/QUOTE]

Wouldn't draw in that situation anyways, even carrying concealed.
Wallet would be gladly handed over, doing my best to make sure he doesn't find out about the gun.
Can't shoot a man to protect personal property.

And I agree... unloaded open carry and unloaded locked concealed carry are worthless for defensive purposes. My point was that there are no destination or special permit requirements for unloaded carry.
Canada, handguns are unloaded, locked, and to and from the range only... can't even stop for a burger. Long guns are much less restricted.

nope... MI does though (hehe...)... the only requirement is to be a non-prohibited person aged 18 or older (for rifles) and 21 or older (for handguns) ;)

    Cool deal.
Perhaps those speaking of "handgun permit" were referring to CHL. I've noticed that from some free states.

AZ would be cool but my wife would never live there. To hot.

I wouldn't shoot but I would draw. Odds are they will back down. Under the Ca ccw permit law routinly transporting large sums of money is a valid reason to request a permit. Still won't be apporved unless one knows people in high places.

yep, ...most states require a "license" (shall-issue is a license) for concealing it, ...though open carry is 100% constitutional here (no license needed), but can garner you unwanted attention in populated areas... unfortunately a lot of folks interchange the words "license" and "permit" as a matter of lexicon, ..kinda like using the "c" word to refer to magazines ;)

Depends on the county. San Bernardino County, and pretty much everywhere NOT along the coast (or Imperial) will issue for a reasonable articulation of "self defense"
A perfect example would be the OP's situation.

Los Angeles County? Not unless your name is Brad Pitt.

And if you draw when shooting is not justified, have fun with the brandishing charge.
2 brandishing charges is a 10 year firearms prohibition. The gun stays in it's holster unless you are ready and willing to take a life.

You live in the wrong country, you need to move out of CA. America FTW!

Phoenix and South-Southwest are hot, but the North and East are cooler than SD. Two nice ski resorts too.

When I lived near Sonoma, I carried when making the bank run for work. Nothing like a socialist state that says you are allowed to protect their money, but not yours.

pretty sure you can't shoot to protect private property anywhere in the country. correct me if i'm wrong.

and to the people saying they will draw and that will make the "bad guy" back down. are you serious? don't draw unless you have to fire. i really hope some of you are talking but don't carry, because you'll get yourself killed with thoughts like that. you're not a cop.

In Arizona, and a few other states, you can use deadly force to prevent burglary. Also, kidnapping, which is what carjacking is considered, so you can use DF to protect your car too.

But if he does not back down (i.e. he keeps coming at you) then you CAN shoot, at least here in GA. What is the guy going to do, pull out his phone and record himself saying "For the record I am about to approach this guy who is pointing a gun at me, but I do not intend to harm him in any way. I already demanded him twice to give it to me, so I am only going to take the wallet out of his pocket then leave."

I am assuming, of course he didn't first pull a gun on you, had maybe a knive or something. With a gun pointed at you, it is better to give up the wallet. What happens after that point depends on events. You probably can't blatantly shoot 40 yards as he is disappearing, but there numerous possible circumstances that could happen before that point.

FX retros, Blazer fog-light retro, JVC KW-NT30HD head unit, Pioneer 6X9's in front doors, Pioneer 6.5's in rear doors, two Pioneer 12" subs in sealed boxes, Sony X-Plod amp, Hidden Hitch trailer hitch, EGR window visors, two PIAA low-tone horns, Westin light bar with two 100-watt KC low profile driving lights.
I wouldn't even consider handing over the wallet myself, he/she made the choice and he/she can suffer the consequences. That one is on them, they know the risks of attempting to take someone's property by force. And anyway, that should simply not be tolerated by anyone...
