I do totally agree with you. High emotions and all. But I think I did not shoot because I was not bit. I also did not shoot because the owner took action.

I can't say what he would have done if he was a second late and I did put the dog down. I was close real close. Had I not seen the owners seconds before the dog and I made contact, there would not have been a three count.

It is a lot of what if's. After then encounter there was no bulling by him or his wife such as WTF, your crazy, I'm calling the cops, They just kind of stared gobsmacked. I can say I would not taunt a guy with a gun either. And I also would be trying to figure out what just happened. Unless your mind is ready for that sort of thing there is not much you can do.

I do know I would not try to pull on a guy that had drawn on me. I also hope he would give me the option to run away or drop my weapon.

I see it like this.. I know criminals don't obey the law and will shoot at the drop of a hat. But I will always try to. If I think I can give a verbal command I will. In this case I was able to and it worked. The dog did not listen but the owner did. If I ever have to draw on a human, I would hope I could command out of it. I hope he would give me the same option. I have always told my self if I am going to carry I will issue commands. That is not the law but I believe I am still morally obligated as a human to respect life. (I am eye for an eye death penalty believer, but I am not Judge Judy and Executioner).

Now... The other side of this is say he did shot me.. and I lived or died. He would have a lot of explaining to do. Forensic science can tell if you were standing lying down and so one when some one is shot.. that is what CSI has tough me.

You are a horrible gun owner. This is exactly why we need stricter gun control

It is a Crazy Cray world.

In any instance.. I hope out of this thread no mater what peoples stance is on guns, jogging, dog walking leashed on or off, hiking, or what ever. They get some good info on what to do, or have some options if nothing else have thought of some sort of plan.

This is just an account of what I did. I don't not recommend my action for any one else but me. This worked for me, I hope I am never in this situation again. I am 100% responsible for what I do negligent or not.

I think you did well in the situation, both by being prepared and controlled enough to make the best decision at the time, and that was not to shoot.

The dog owners were at fault, I don't fault the dog. My German Pointer has been professionally trained on and off leash to non verbal and verbal commands. However I would still not let him run free in a public place or going for a walk for his own safety. Out in private fields, family land, he's good and listens...99% of the time - his instincts still kick in hard on some game animals though, and he just likes to run run run and have fun.

Op and anyone who supported him. This is why we shouldn't have assault weapons.

No wonder you're a "radio man". What the OP did was within his rights under arizona state law. If you don't agree...take it up with the people who write those laws, not bash someone for enacting their rights. So you are an anti-gun person, who is in the marines.... That's rather ironic, wouldn't you say.

I'm assuming you are joking. No one mentioned assault weapons, and one wasn't used by the OP. Who goes jogging with a rifle?

Assault rifles are either for hunting, or home defense. As a last step they are for defending the liberty of our nation. I'm sorry you disagree, but too bad. A marine should know better.

I still need a good AR. I even saved a special spot in my safe for it... one day. (sigh)

All branches of service need radiomen, and should know better. Especially Uncle Sam's misguided children. :)
