G19 Gen 4

Anyone have a Glock 19 Gen 4? Looking to get one, but haven't decided. Also looking at the PX4 storm .45 to get as well. Any insight on either of them?

 

Take a look at the Springfield Armory XDs in either 9mm or .45ACP

 

I've got several handguns, and fired many that I don't own. I carry a gen 4 g19 almost all the time. If I'm not carrying the glock, I carry a S&W 640-1. Try firing several different boomsticks to find out which one is most comfortable to carry and use.

 

I had a glock 17 gen 4 and got rid of it. Out of 17 rounds 3 or 4 rounds of hot brass would eject into my eye. They have problems with the ejector and the loading mechanism.

 

I own lots of firearms. My wife, my mother & myself all trust our lives to a Glock 19 every day we leave the house. You can get fancier & more expensive but you won't find better or more reliable.

That being said, shoot them all and find what shoots best for YOU. None of our opinions matter.

 

just bought a gen3 19, used of course. wanted it instead of the gen4 because id heard some strange things about the new spring assembly having jamming problems. like the old grip design better too. . . . i love it.

 

My EDC is a Gen 4 G26(1450 rounds). My competition gun is a Gen 4 G17(3400 rounds). I don't have a Gen 4 G19 because I have a Gen 2 G19 with a grip reduction.
The earliest versions of the Gen 4s had issues, but they're good now.
My 17 had BTF issues when I bought it, but Glock sent me the 30274 ejector and it cured it. The new ones already have the new ejector.

 

One of my competition guns is a G17 Gen3 with well over 10,000rds through it. Probably more like 20k now. It runs flawless and the shell ejection is predictable and a non-factor. It's been my experience that this isn't the case with Gen4 regardless of early model, late model, replaced parts, whatever. This to me is more of a factor for something that you will shoot more... like at the range and such. IMO the Gen4 is still the better carry weapon because most likely you will be hammer firing and the reduced recoil will help you to put rounds on target better. It also has adjustable grips and I really like the back strap that has the exaggerated dove tail. IMO this allows for a more positive grip in stressful situations. Maybe not so much in competitions or range days. I like my Gen4's for carry (make sure all parts are the updated versions) and Gen3's for competition but that's just what works for me.

 

Dont get me wrong i love glocks. I have a gen 4 21 and it is my EDC of choice (45 acp ftw); but after getting a blister on my eye lid i will be waiting till i get another gen 4 fullsize 9mm or compact. But am in the market for a 26 or 30s for a better choice in cc.

When you shoot you should be wearing ear pro, eye pro and a hat. It's not for looks.

 

All of the new glocks have the btf issue, it isn't limited to the gen4. Apex makes a bar stock extractor that is supposed to help with the issue.

My Gen4 G19 has been flawless from day 1, however, a lot if the guns that have the btf issue don't exhibit it until higher round counts. I only have about 1k through mine.

I would shy away from the XD/ XDM line personally, they are popular but have what I would consider a fatal flaw with the grip safety design which can make 1 handed malfunction clearing difficult. I want a self defense gun to be as simple as possible.

 

And just to clarify, when I say "all", I mean both gen3 and gen4 glocks manufactured roughly 2011+.

I've had a lot of glock 19's, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen and havent had any issues with any of them that would make me recommend them more or less.

I currently have 3, two 3rd gen and one 4th. I do like the grip and mag release on the 4th gen, and if it wouldn't be so costly to replace all my glocks with gen 4's, I'd probably do it.


Its a 99% to 1% ratio on where I care where the brass goes, vs the lead. I never noticed or really cared about a brass to the face issue. Even at the range when you are shooting beside people, bring it on. If a little piece of brass distracts me, I need more training.

Going tomorrow to ssguns in Lubbock to see what all I like, interested in the XDS

 

I'm not a glock fan boy by any means. But I do have a glock and a XD. truth be told I think I like the feel of the glock more. But don't get me wrong the xd and a fantastic pistol.

 

As long as single-handed manipulation isn't a concern with the back strap safety the XDs is a wonderful choice for carry. Make sure you also check out the Shield as they are very similar and maybe you like one more than the other. Personally, I like the trigger on the XDs 9mm (the .45ACP is garbage unless they changed it to the newer version in the 9mm) better than that of the Shield and I don't like the manual safety on the Shield. I don't use them on a carry weapon and to me it's just something that could get accidentally set and slow me down. Until Glock makes a single-stack, subcompact 9mm I will continue trying out offerings from other manufacturers that fit this need for a smaller firearm when it arises. If only a government agency would spec a 9mm version of the G36 we'd have one available to us to buy.

 

M&P Compact. Stay away from new Glocks. They F'd them up with the late Gen 3 Gen 4 mods.

 

If you forced me to chose I'd still take my newer Glocks over ANY version of my M&P's. They're more expensive and just not as good if you ask why. Simple as that.
