    Take My Money!!!

    he New Ammunition That Has Gun Owners Drooling
    By Chad Cunningham
    They call it the R.I.P. round and with good reason. G2 Research has released a new ammo that is taking the market by storm and has gun owners all over the country trying to find where to pick some up.
    As of now, the company is only releasing specifications for their 9mm round and they go a lil’ something like this:
    * 16″ Penetration
    * Up to 6″ diameter spread
    * 96 gr projectile
    * 2″ grouping at 25 yrds
    * 1265 FPS / 490 Muzzle Energy
    * 9 Separate Wound Channels
    * Precision Machined
    * Solid Copper / Lead Free
    * Defeats all known barriers such as sheet metal, sheet rock, windshields, plywood, heavy winter clothing

    Looks awesome, but the penetration concerns me some. 16" is a lot.

    Pre-frag ammo has been around for a long time. I doubt this new ammo with be anything more than a flash in the pan. I'll pass - preferring to trust my life to a .45 hollowpoint. YMMV

    Not impressed. If you look at one of the videos, you will see the core of the projectile, after penetrating the gelatin, doesnt penetrate the paper target. Fragmentation projectiles have been tried in the past, and found to not have the mass to properly transfer the energy to the target. Although this looks "cool", other than creating many small wound channels, I don't see this being very competitive to a heavier projectile.

    But do you want the core to penetrate 16" and than still have the core moving fast enough to penetrate something else. It looks like its a great self defense round. I understand that it isnt in the same league as hollow points of FMJ but i do think its on the same level as like a Glaser round or something like that.

    The problem with light weight projectiles, is they shed their energy fast. in most cases, too fast. Glazier Safety slugs, for example, didn't/don't work as advertised. in real wolrd conditions, many have only penetrated a few inches, and didn't deliver enough energy to the target to stop it. Its a good theory, but just another gimmick, IMHO.

    Lots of people say "i'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6"...

    well if that jury sees that you have these rounds in your gun, even in a "good" self-defense use of force, they'll think you're sadistic and out looking for blood. I'd stick to JHP rounds as close to what cops use. If its good enough for the PD, its good enough for me!

    Time will tell. I'm not an early adopter when it comes to ammo. They had to break out a G18 to help sell it, which doesn't do much for me.

    If I can't even buy a block 18 then the ammo is kinda useless to me.

    Shooting The Bull, on YouTube did a test of this ammo.

    Unimpressive...
