anyone buy mini glock?

50% seems generous. If I can get groups twice the size of those I get in a timed competition, I'm good. I'm not quite convinced though that it'd be that easy.

I like running before shooting. Gets the heart rate up there closer to what it would be in an adrenaline fueled situation

When I carry any of my .45s, Dan Wesson Valor, Guardian, or ECO or my XDs, I carry a backup mag. Winchester Ranger in the gun and round nose in the back up mag.

Round nose, especially in a 1911, are considered to be very reliable due to the round bullet tip sliding on the feed ramp.

So, I keep Winchester Ranger hollow points in the gun which I have tested for reliability and are considered a very good expanding bullet. IF I have a mag or bullet failure my back up is simple and reliable. And I'm only giving up expansion while a .45 will never produce a hole smaller than .45 while many 9mm HPs will expand to only .45 or smaller. Bigger hole = more blood loss = faster incapacitation/death.

For defense ammo I HIGHLY suggest this site. This guy is likely the highest authority on reliable bullets.

My questions is this - why do you think that you're going to need something that feeds more reliably or penetrates better than what's in your primary mag?

Carry ball ammo is a non-starter for me - it's much more likely to over-penetrate or under-perform than modern defensive ammo. Also, unless you've armed yourself with a Hi-Point, your chosen Winchester load will feed in just about any .45 out there.

I carry Ranger 127-grain SXT's in my Glocks. They work great, function very well with damn near violent ejection (it's a +P+ loading), and are plenty accurate.

You'll be fine with your Ranger SXT's. Bonded ammo > ball ammo in every situation.

FYI - I've been reading Gary Roberts' stuff for years. He's spot on in his determinations.

I have a ferrari. Its awesome and does amazing things. But its possibly not as reliable as my 1970 honda civic i keep so i can get to work in case the ferrari breaks down. Getting to work is more important than style.

Not a true story

On the off chance his gun starts having an issue with his chosen ammo, 2 mags of non shooters makes for a very poor hammer. Hes just saying that if he has a problem with the first mag that has better bullets having a 2nd that is highly reliable is important to him as a backup plan.

A premium 9mm bullet *might* expand as large as a 45 that doesnt expand at all. Common line of logic.

Or buy a glock 40, load it with gold dots and ime many many many many thousands of rounds ime, have no worries.

In reference to the stressed shooting things, there is exactly 1 thing that will make you shoot like you would under fire, and thats having someone try to kill you before you kill them. Until you do a lot of that youre just practicing shooting after a run. Its not a bad thing, but its not the same.
