Some animals like the old/unhealthy/genetically incompatible need to be put down any way so why not have someone pay a shit load to do so?

 

It's too bad you can't get a tag for humans cause that is the animal that actually does need population control

Whoops. I phrased that wrong. More on countries with human population decline.

 

That seems to be the trend as a country ages and matures.

People in a undeveloped country have lots of kids because many die as children/teens and they are needed to work on the farm/whatever.

Once they get decent health care the children don't die any more but the cultural norm of having lots of kids does not go away. This is where India is now and where China was.

After this the cultural expectation of lots and lots of kids goes away and many people want to focus on a career. There is also much better sexual education and family planning available. So the population growth rate drops. This is where China is now. People are able to move into cities and buy cars they don't want to be tied down by having 10 kids. Having 20 million less females then men probably doesn't help either. The rural areas arguably keep the population growth as high as it is because education generally trickles out of cities slowly into rural areas.

After even longer some places will have even less children because people don't want the liability of them sucking up free time/money/whatever. Some places like Japan have a really strange culture making it even more noticeable. Lots of teenagers there are just not interested in sex with someone else. Adults also have an extremely unhealthy work culture where people work 12 hours a day 7 days a week and many people die young from stress induced heart attacks. Japan is also very homogeneous so there is very little immigration. IIRC some countries in Northern Europe are also bordering on negative population growth so they need immigration to keep a healthy economy.

We just covered this in one of my courses last semester so I'll see if I can find the chart showing this trend over a few countries...

 

So , you're saying people in China had lots of kids instead of the one they were allowed by China's One Child Policy ?

 

The law is hard to enforce in rural areas and people can have more than one child they just pay more in taxes after each child after the first. Corruption is rampant in china too pay the right person and I'm sure you can have as many kids as you want

The population growth had to come from somewhere considering 60 million people died as a direct result of Maos bad policies.
