Yay, more evaporust. I'll remove it Monday to see how it did, I'm going home for the weekend so can't check it then lol

Had to improvise a soaking container with vacuum sealer bags and the cord to keep it around the entire gun

Why not just get a piece of PVC and a cap?

Becaus te diameter of pipe I would have had to use would have taken too much of the evaporust....PVC pipe was my first thought. I looked for a few different options then said screw it and started improvising.

Got some pictures for y'all, again. The pictures show what it looks like after soaking in the evaporust for a few days and a light rub down with 0000 steel wool and gun oil.

All the markings can now be read easily. I plan on trying to unscrew some of the gas system to see if it is loose enough now

To be honest I'm not quite sure yet, probably most of what you can see in the second picture.

I'm a firm believer in evaporust now though.

I'm about to see about removing some parts so we shall see how it goes

In the end I will only replace what I absolutely have to

No vinegar lol, I've used it before and it will start to eat the steel if you aren't careful, I've got evaporust that worked awesome

    On another note

    Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Good lord that it a lot of information to process.

And it also sounds like you have a few more toys (equipment lol) at your disposable. As for the evaporust, I can remove all of it easily. Brake cleaner works wonders lol. We've been using it in the machine shop class for a while now.

Anyways, the more I look at it the more I am thinking that the entire gas block is going To be removed and replaced. I'm done messing with it today, but I'll work some more tomorrow (maybe....I may reload some 45-70 instead lol)

Another thing in taking into account is what I'm doing after I get it apart and repaired, it's going to be refinished, which if I have It my way will be parkerized before cerakote, which will also include a bead blasting. The best thing is that I'm happy with the price I paid for the scope alone, that way even if I screw the gun up completely I'm not screwed lol

OP you're planning on flipping this after it's rebuilt right? I thought you said you'd get $400 for it, but in the other thread I think you mentioned needing a nice hunting rifle or something similar.

I'll clarify that, I think that if I can get it up and running again I think "could" sell it for around 400. I like projects like this and usually end up keeping them. I think I could make the majority of my money back by selling the scope, though I'm not certain.

anyways, I've got plans for at least the scope if nothing else. My uncle (who actually first took me deer hunting only a few years ago) has taught me most of what I know when it comes to hunting and fishing. He has been using a single shot .35 whelen to hunt with in the past couple years and has a ok scope on it, the leupold off this gun is significantly better though so I'm going to give the scope to him. I took the project on mainly to see if I could do it. so far I'm thinking probably will be able to lol

So only thing I did tonight was pull a .30 cal bore snake through the bore (on another note a .308 bore snake will fit through a .270 if you have 2 people pulling....and it gets the bore very clean lol)

Anyways, I tried to get a picture of the bore and this was the best I could get. After the evaporust and the bore snake it actually looks really good, especially compared to what I was expecting lol

Oh, and do y'all think that a little bit of heat will hurt for trying to get the gas block off or at least the screws and bolts in the gas block? And I'm talking heat gun rather than torch

This thread is awesome, I am getting a shotgun from my grandfather at Thanksgiving, which was my great greandfathers, I am told it is in pretty bad shape so this thread is priceless for the knowledge.

Can't wait to see how it turns out.
