He was exaggerating about CA... Their laws are strict but that was a joke.

Almost sad that Canadian law is so restrictive that you'd believe that. You really need a permit to MOVE a handgun you already own?!

There is a nice skeet/trap range on Redstone Arsenal if you know anyone that works out there that can get you access. I will be heading out there sometime before dove season if you want to go. Last year it was $4/round including the clay. It usually isn't crowded and if there are people there they have always been nice to me and let me shoot with them.

Usually I just go to swan creek because it is a lot easier to hit clays thrown by hand than the machine ;)

Haha, yeah let me know. I've since gotten the 870, lovin it, and I did go to try Big Sky. It's run by a few older guys who live around there and just hang out until someone shows up to shoot; they're pretty awesome.
One of my coworkers' brothers can get on the arsenal and they go shooting; got invited to go last weekend but I was out of town. :(

In Massachusetts, rifle and shotguns MUST have a trigger lock and be in a case. They must also have a trigger lock in your house OR be in a locked cabinet. NO joke either!!

Yes. In fact, in Canada you can only purchase a handgun for certain reasons - mainly as a collector or to use at an approved gun club. Telling the firearms registrar you wish to own the gun for personal defense will immediately disqualify you from owning the firearm.

There are restrictions on minimum barrel lengths and ten round magazine restrictions. To move a gun from point A to point B requires a permit - valid only between the times listed and must be transported via the most direct route. The guns must be secured with a trigger lock, in a locked box and in a secure vehicle out of sight. If you stop for a beer on the way and your car is stolen you're in a world of legal trouble. Gun club members are given a long-term permit enabling them to take firearms to an approved range anytime they wish - by the most direct route.

A few years ago the anti-gun crowd (and some politicians) were calling for central firearm lockups. Firearm owners wouldn't have been able keep their guns at home but at a government facility instead. The day you want to go shooting with your handgun or your granddad's 30-06 you would have had to go sign out your own gun and return it after your trip. Thankfully, that proposal never became a reality.

Oh. My. God. I'll go ahead and stay here in Alabama; if you all want that, feel free, but I'll stick to being able to possess and carry firearms.

Yeah, I'm a fellow MA and I couldn't believe the gun laws here. I'm originally from VA, where you can actually apply for and get a CCW permit without much hassle at all. Here in MA I have to spend $200 to get a permit to OWN a gun. I can't legally transport it, even in my trunk unloaded, unless I have that permit. And I'm pretty sure the law states that you have to have the trigger lock on the gun even if it's in a locker. You'd think one of the original 13 colonies would support your personal rights a little better, guess not.

As a general rule. Unless youre carrying a concealed weapon with a permit, you should always carry it unloaded. Here in Cali, you practicaly have to have a vault in your truck to carry any gun. From my experience, if its unloaded, in a case, and not in the front seat, you should be ok. If the Nazi's out here dont bother me, you should be ok in Alabama.
