I have an extra 900 bucks and was looking to purchase a gun or guns and wanted to get some sort of idea what is hot on the market right now and what would you get. I only own a Tikka T3 in 308 (hunting), but over the years have had numerous handguns as well as some long guns.

Ar15s are hot on the market...but I wouldn't just blindly buy a gun without any direction

However I have a Smith and Wesson 44 revolver with Leupold scope that I'd let go for $1000

Dont just go buying a gun willy nilly. Its a very personal thing. Take your time. Treat it like finding a woman. Only the right one will do.

Yeah, it's like saying "I want to buy a car" and that's it, way too broad. For $900 there are a thousand choices...what do you want to do with it?

Looking for something for target shooting, I think i will just sit on the cash and visit some local gun shops like (McCaysville drug and gun) and see what i might be interested in.

Target shooting....ok now were talking depending on the distance your thinking of typical plinking 50 - 150 yds, then how much you wana be spending in the future on ammo this part of the equation,,,price and availability of ammo dictates if and how often you shoot thus how good you shoot. At the mentioned distance your more popular consequently lower priced ammo 22lr or 223 make a good ammo choice with the 223 being consistant to 500 yds with qaulity ammo. If you realy wana stretch the guns legs a 308 offers you the ability to bust holes at 8-900 yds if your just starting though Id stick with the smaller 223 round. A new bolt act Ruger American 22lr, 223 or 308 can be had for 320$. A Savage for a buckfifty more but really worth it. A Remington700 start at 700$. Take cruze to your local gun store or Academy , Basspro and look at ammo prices to help make a better gun choice.

hey more specifically the Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 are arguably the most versatile weapons on the market. I ultimately went with the mossberg because of versatility and price. Within a minute I can have the appropriate barrel and the appropriate choke for whatever task I desire it for.

22 pistols & 22 AR's are fun as hell, but impossible to find ammo for - so, that's not ideal right now anyway.

A shotgun?? The only realistic way to get target shooting with a shotgun, is to find a local range that offers up trap, skeet, or sporting clays. All of which are fun as hell...but if you don't have any in your area, its probably not worth it.

In all the guns we own - the larger caliber pistols are just more 'accurate' in longer distance. 9mm's are nice for plinking - just have to find your favorite and what 'fits'.

AR's are also a lot of fun. As well as Sniper rifles (best when you have really long distance range to shoot at - we have access to 600 yards).

All depends on what you're looking to get out of it. Ultimately, if you're a gun enthusiast, you'll probably have one of each eventually over your lifetime!

Hmmm. You can certainly pick up a good, center-fire rifle for $900.00, but I don't know that you can get a good rifle AND a good scope at that price. You might be able to pick up a gently used Springfield M1A for $900.00 and use the iron sights. Those rifles are extremely accurate, and very fun to shoot. Personally, I have been looking at buying a Ruger 10/22 Target with a black laminate stock, and mounting a scope to that. I think I can put that together for around $800.00, and that should be a real hoot to plink around with while shooting bottle caps and the like. I'm not the best with a rifle, so I thought I would work on my skills with the less expensive .22 LR and migrate up from there. Also I've got little ones coming up, and I need to expand my rimfire collection for them :).

Build yourself an AR! Best way to do it, you can decide what parts you wanna drop the most $$$ on and what to drop the less amount on..100% customizable, the best way to do it. and honestly its way cheaper than going to a sporting goods store and buying the gun pre assembled and its very fun
