I've honestly never shot a glock, I've felt one before (I'm not even sure which model) it just didn't feel all that great in my hand. When I first picked up the XD it just felt like it fit my hand very well which is what makes me put it at the top of my list.

The trigger pull is kinda long but i got used to it after putting about 100 rounds through it.

FYI it's also possible to convert the XD 40 into a 9mm. However I don't think you can do the opposite though. But to do this you have to buy some additional items.

I shot a Sig Sauer, Glock, the xd9, and my old Ruger side by side for comparison before purchase. Shot much better with the xd9 first time I shot it, same with my wife.

I ended up with a xd-9 v10. I regret buying the ported barrel version and am currently looking for a regular 9mm barrel.

Mr.Mildot- can you get regular 9mm barrels???

I think that Glock has more of a kool-aide type following than Springfield. With that said, The XD and the XDM are two different weapons, the XD was a sweet piece to have and shoot, but they improved even more with the XDM. I picked up a Springfield 1911 A-1 MIL-SPEC for 580 three years ago. Dad and Mom each have the XDM. Mom's is a 9mm and Dad has the .40

I personally do not care for the glocks, I know they are dependable, but the XDM feels better to me and are just as reliable.

My current ccw is an XD40....great pistol. Up until I got it, i've always carried a SA 1911 Commander.

I bought the xd40 tactical when they first came out. since then i've put well over 10,000 rounds through it(replaced barrel at around 8000). it is by far the most accurate auto pistol i own! very fun to shoot. i wouldn't trade it for the world!
I would never suggest to anyone to buy a 9mm. just because the millitary still uses that caliber(geneva convention) doesn't make it good. Taking everything(recoil, energy, speed, capacity, etc.) into consideration .40s&w is the most effective self defense handgun caliber.

I have shot a couple XDs and I really like them. For the price I would say they are one of the best handguns out. Very nice gun. I am probably going to pick one of these up in the near future.

says a guns and ammo magazine test, says the says the policemans benelovent association, and the international defensive pistol association. the tests have all shown that 40s&w out performs all other self defense handgun calibers ....hands down. trust me there is no argument to be had here. been there-done that.
i would not discourage anyone from getting a 9mm. because after all they will be shooting something, which is what this country needs. more armed citizens expressing their second amendment rights. i am simply stating that the 40s&w is the most effective self defense round available.
an armed citizen is a responsible citizen. would you rather your life be in the hands of someone else, or your own?

I'm not going to argue that the .40S&W is not a great self-defense round; it is. I've owned one and liked it. BUT, the .357SIG has better stopping power.
My wife's brother is a Maricopa County SWAT team member (one of the most elite SWAT units in the country). He uses the .357SIG. Most of the guys he works with carry .45ACP. He says the .40S&W are their 'girl guns' because the women and inexperienced guys can handle it.
I don't think I would ever consider it a 'girl' round though.
