Are .40s&w easier and cheaper to find than .45acp? I heard this recently

They are cheaper than .45acp. .40s&w was easier to find through the ammo shortage because most people have .45 and 9mm and were buying those up.

What a coincidence... I just bought gold dots for my XD9 last night.

I've owned my XD 9 service (full grip) for 2 years and a member of XDTalk.com.

3000 rounds now with no malfunction. Before I bought the XD for my first pistol, I enrolled in a 3-hour class at a local gun store and range. At the end of it we got to try all their 9mms. Sig, S&W, Glock, CZ, Beretta, XD, ... The XD just felt the best in my hands so that's the one I got. I've bought and traded-in 2 pistols since then but I would never get rid of the XD. Without problems it shoots any brand/type of 9mm luger I feed it.

The XD-M should be a more accurate pistol than the XD with its accurized matched barrel. But I agree with the above post that a 5" barrel, other than for competition, is too long for this pistol. You just have more choices on the configuration with the XD vs the XD-M. The XD is also cheaper. But if you must thave the XD-M, go for it.

You have a fun dilemma. Just remember, you'd probably want another pistol in the future so get the one that you want to use TODAY!

I had the XD .45, great gun. The only downside is, if you get sweaty palms the gun gets slippery. To fix that problem I put skateboard tape on the grip. The gun is now perfect.

    I did the same.

At the local shooter's show I brought mine in. The Springfield reps thought it was a great solution to the said issue. They gave me an XD hat.

The study i was refering to consisted an evaluations from police shootings. they evaluated the amounts of one shot kills from the different calibers and 40S&W had the most of all police used calibers.
Now having said that, when that study was done the numbers they used were from the years 1993-1997 so i would think that the reasoning would be that at that time there were a lot less cops using the 357 sig than the 40S&W.
I think if that study was done again using numbers from 2005-2009 the outcome may be a bit different since alot more police agencys are adopting the 357sig.
What it all boils down to is bullet design. lighter=faster=less energy. heavier=slower=more energy. some 40S&W bullets may outperform 357sigs and vice versa.
I personally will always carry a 40S&W simply because of its availlability, accuracy, and stopping power.

    A little off topic.....But-

I think more police should carry 454 cassulls or 500S&W's...... talk about stopping power!!

I'm a little late to the party, but here's my XD45. I love this gun, and I owned several other brands. I would strongly suggest holding many guns other guns to see what feels right (and shoot them if available.)

I purchased the XDM 40 when it first came out. After about 3 months later I sold it. IMO Glock 17 and Smiwth and Wesson MP9s would be a better choice.
