Semi Auto.22 Suggestions?

I am looking for a .22 Semiauto to play around with at the range. Does anybody have any suggestions on brands and models? I don't want to spend more than $500! I am just wanting something cheaper to shoot at the range other than my 9s and .45!

I was going to buy a ruger MKIII .22/.45
(it has a 1911 style grip so that s the .45).
You can find em for around $500.
Assuming you'r talking pistols.

 

I know someone with a Springfield 1911 .45, but put a .22 slide on it. Shoots nice!

A ruger MkII or MKIII or colt woodsman are good .22 semi auto's. I've only ever shot the MKII, but the others are similar. Very accurate and fun to shoot. You should be able to get a ruger for around 300, but a woodsman might be over 500.

I'll second or third the Ruger Mk guns. I have a MkI Target from the early 50's and it is still going strong today. I also have a few MkII that have thousands of round through them and rarely give issues, nothing ever serious, and almost every time any issue id ammo related.

and looks like buds has a few in, well under your $500 limit. The stainless 6&7/8" gun with adjustable sights is NICE gun. But then, all of my Rugers have been nice guns!

I would suggest not buying the Sig Mesquito (sp?) My dad has it and we both agree its lame. Jams way too often.

 

i got a beretta U22 Neos and added a red dot scope that thing is vary accurate with minimal jams as long as you dont use really cheap ammo only cost around $230

is the Walther P22. I agree with the other poster, the Sig Mosquito is horrible. Mine went back to Sig three times before they told me "tough cookies". Sig said that the failure to feed problems were my fault because I failed to use the only kind of ammo it will eat. The Mosquito will only eat CCI Minimag ammo reliably. During the ammo shortage, CCI wasn't always available so I had to improvise. I traded it in for the Walther P22 and haven't looked back. It eats everything I feed it. Very accurate and fun to shoot.

The other recommendations for the Rugers are spot-on. Very reliable. Take-down for cleaning takes some time to get use to. Can't comment on the Brownings. I always wanted one, but were a little high $$$ for a .22 for my use.

Go with a Ruger MKIII. It will never let you down and is a very high quality handgun. Wouldn't buy any other .22 handgun as long as Ruger is still around!

 

The ruger was my second choice, but a mix up at Bass Pro gave me a $400 Browning for $285. I liked the way the Browning fit in my hand better. But the Ruger is proven. The Beretta Neos and the Browning were both very accurate, but the factory sights IMHO didn't do the gun justice. You almost need an aftermarket sight/scope/optics to take full advantage of it. The Mark III has good factory sights.

Long rifle hands down the Ruger 10/22.

Hand gun I would say Walther P22.

Both guns are fully customizable and fun.

 

damn, I saw .22 and was gonna say ruger 10/22....then i saw pistols...
but you should still get a ruger 10/22 anyways. right around $200, they have unlimited mods you can do to them

 

I have the Browning Buckmark Camper. I like it alot. Shoots great, eats everything I feed it and it is pretty easy to break down and clean, unlike the ruger. Thats the only thing I dont like about the ruger. Cant really go wrong either way.
