These video's are deceiving for this debate and not an complete accurate test. You need some gelatin behind the wall to show remaining energy after exiting the wall structure.

The 00 buck will have more than enough energy to do human harm.
The 7.5 bird will only cause superficial injury.

Not only that the shot pattern is from a mod-full choke. That is not practical in home defense and anyone utilizing an AR-15 (or any rifle) for home defense is why I'd never want to live in an urban area.

you are correct thinkingman, it's more like 1200-1250fps out
of the little Ruger. I check it with a friends chrony the next time
    he has it out.

Sounds like a decent choice with the Glock. Just make absolutely sure that it's 100% reliable with the wife shooting it. I know some of the older Glocks had issues with FTF, FTE when not held with a strong wrist.
That can be an issue with most any autoloader though. I know my daughter can cause my normally 100% reliable carry piece to FTE when she tries (or doesn't as the case may be) and limp wrists my .45acp.
Another thing is to make sure she can rack the slide all the time without a full hand grip across the slide top. I have a CZ that the wife has issues racking the slide without a full grip on it and has closed the slide with hand meat in the ejection port.
    (not a good thing)

I have a number of pistols ranging from plinkers to HD/CCW. Yes, I pick them like golf clubs, depending on what I'm wearing, where I'm going, etc.
I carry anything from a Smith & Wesson 642 with shorts and a t-shirt to a full size Gov't model with jeans, 380 Beretta or 9mm CZ for Docker duty. My normal carry piece is a new High Standard Gov't model compact .45acp. Couple of modest mods to it, and it's been 100% reliable since break in. I have about 2,500 rounds through it so far, with no FTE, FTF since the first or second box through it.

My recommendation HD piece for a new user or a woman would be a Ruger GP100 4" bbl and night sights. They're stone reliable and reasonably priced. You can shoot .38Spl in it for range time and load it with full power .357 mags for the house.

Hidden GPS tracking system. Backflip cover, weather techs, bed mat, tailgate lock, OME 885 springs, blistein shocks, 2.5 in AAL/
Ruger GP100. Great gun. That is what I use and since it is 38/357, it is more versitile.
