I have an XD-M 40, and an XD 40 sub-compact for my carry gun. They are both awesome guns, Nice choice.

I have gone to 5 walmarts within the last 2 days and none of them have any ammo. They are all sold out still. I guess its still moving fast. Maybe I would be better off buying from cabelas at least i save gas that way,

Got one. Buddy has a 40 cal. which is a little more comfortable and less recoil than my 9. Love it though.

Your friends .40 has less recoil than your 9mm?? That's weird. How is it more comfortable?

Velocity? I'm not a gun expert by any means. But the 9 has as higher velocity.
The 40 just felt like it returned better for each subsequent round. So I interpret this as less recoil. Only way I can explain it.

.40's are generally snappier that 9mm or .45 in my experience with them. The felt recoil can vary depending on the size of the gun and barrel length.
As far as being more comfortable, the 9mm and .40 share the same frame so I was wondering if both pistols you shot had the same slide length or not.

I believe they're 4 inch lengths? I understand the frames are the same but there's something with the .40 that gave the impression of better control, less flip is the only way I can describe. Felt a little more solid so to speak. The 9 feels a little loose. I chose the 9 because I was informed the ammo was widely used and cheaper but the problem with that is everyone else has one so it was hard to find at times. The .40 I think (again not an avid gun buff by any means) is kind of an off caliber and therefore easier to find for purchase. My opinion is with the 9 you have to compensate for power through all the special ammo and/or jackets crap. .40 or .45 would be my next choice since lower velocity and more of a punch. IMO from reading some stuff and talking to more experienced folks than I.

That's bad logic. I am a handgun fan, have rifles as well, but understand the laws on waiting period (don't agree with them but understand). A handgun is easier to conceal and is more likely to be used in a "heat-of-the-moment" type crime than an assault rifle (according to statistics).

Again, I don't agree with the waiting period but understand why they apply it as they do.

I think 9mm was a good choice. The XD9 service (4") was my first pistol. I had the XD40sc but I have not shot the service .40. It is kind of an 'off caliber' but during this shortage I've seen more .40 than I can shake a stick at. I really like all three (9mm, .40, .45) but I like the .45 the most. Either way, you and your friend bought a couple of awesome pistols. My wife is still pissed that I sold my XD9 three years after the fact...

We don't have a waiting period here and there is no blood in the streets.;) Maybe we're more mature and sane in this state?:p

In the heat of the moment. I would go with a bigger one. Who cares about concealment if you can get them from 200 yards away. Just the way I am looking at it. But that does make sense.
