I like that shot, it's got 3 great vices, firearms, scotch and I'm assuming that's a cigar humidor to go with that ash tray?

Honestly the shorter barrel makes little to no difference with high quality reloads todays from what i found, i had no probplem taking my SPS out to 800 yds and if i had a range to go farther i have no doubt that it would. On a side note i just sold it to get a new ruger gunsite for hunting and i got 1100 for mine.

Keep us posted on how the Ruger performs. It's on my short list of "to buy" guns but I don't know anyone who's handled one. Especially compaired to the SPS.

so my room mate recently bought a sporterized mauser. he was told that it was chambered in 7mm mauser...it is not. we are able easily chamber .270 brass in it. any ideas on what caliber it could be?

My first guess is either .270 winchester or .280 remington. I am really hoping that it is not a wild cat for his sake, I have a reloading press, but he does not..

I did check the bore at the muzzle with my calipers and it is ver close to 7mm (I'm not certain on it as i couldn't get a consistent reading

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
from a quick search, it looks like there were numerous chambers in the 7mm range and .30-06, etc.

Our local gun store just had their "Ruger Days", and I picked up an LCP .380 for $279.99 + Tax (free background check too).

It's been heavily sporterized so I suspect a different caliber than standard mauser

Even has a canjar trigger in jt

Just picked this up yesterday. Its a 1st gen G17 with about 20 rounds through it and everything is original. My question to all of you is should I keep it stock and not shoot it much or do I send it into Glock to get the recommended upgrades done and put a few thousand rounds through it?

It has basically no collector's value so I say shoot the crap out of it and rebuild it as you see fit. If I fell into a G17 I'd be tempted to cut it down to a G19 longslide, do a full stipple job with backstrap reduction and build a sweet carry piece.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
I had a first gen g22 and I agree tey have little to no collection value but they are great platform to have fun with. Personally I like rough texture grips stipled or skateboard tape are great. Shoot it. Shoot it some more. And then shoot it again :) I miss mine sometimes butni traded it after about 10k rounds for a brand new baby glock 27.

Quality loads or not. You are losing velocity with a short barrel. The same load fired from a 24" barrel will be faster than a 20", thus changing long range trajectories. Or any trajectories for that matter. I am not talking about overall accuracy versus barrel length, that very well may not be affected at all. In my opinion......save the short barrels for self defense shotguns and handguns, not rifles. It defeats the purpose of having all this precision made ammunition and firearms when you cannot utilize the full capability of it. Just my view, not saying you are wrong. Just saying the numbers don't lie.

You can either slug the barrel and measure the lead plug after removal. (measure the bore diameter, not the rifling diameter). Or just take it to a smithy. Mausers were made into all kinds of calibers, but most often it was one of your common cartridges. For a no doubt answer, take it to the smithy, it won't cost much, if anything.

Sorry for all the posts, but I just gota chime in and don't get the multi quote thing. With exceptions aside, a suppressed rifle was designed for tactical situation, generally under 300 yds (?) and likely in a noise sensitive environment. Do you see military snipers using suppressors for anything other than close/short range? Either way, the bullet is always there long before the shot is ever heard. (If ever heard it all)

I'm bringing it to a gunsmith I k is next time I go home for a chamber casting. I personally like .270 though I don't own one, so I am hoping for that. There is nothing stamped on the barrel, so I will probably have the smith stamp the barrel with the caliber if my room mate won't do it (don't want someone loading the wrong thing in it)

It has an old weaver scope on it as well. I'm hoping to talk my room mate out of it, because so want it for my mossberg 46B(b) .22 rifle lol

Sorry, I'm not following your question/point. I'm just saying a 16" rem 700 with an 8" can is as long as a 24" rifle unsuppressed. Cutting barrel length gets you a lighter and more compact gun. My 16" Rem 700 (300 BLK):

It's pretty rare that you'll find a Glock with collector value. They're tools and as such they're meant to be used. 1911's are for collecting and Glocks are for shooting. ;)

It's doesn't exactly work that way all the time. Too many variables to discuss absolutes like that when you don't know the load to know if the powder burn-off rate and all sorts of variables. There's also the increased rigidity of a shorter barrel when you're comparing a 20" for instance to a 24-26" with all other things being equal. I've used 24" barrels as well as 20" barrels in competitions and they each have their pros and cons. If all you care about it velocity and are running a round that will allow you to maximize case volume then you may net additional velocity which may or may not help ultimately but as far as this conversation... too many unknowns to speak in such absolution. FWIW, my hottest loads (velocity-wise) are rarely my most consistent & accurate loads. That last hundred fps will also bake a barrel in short order too and your groups will start opening up about the time you get a good load worked up and are familiar with the setup. Traditional thought is that longer is better when it comes to barrels, especially on precision rifles, but this isn't always the care and there's lots of considerations that need to be accounted for.

Not really. A suppressor doesn't effectively increase the length of your barrel the way you're saying. A 16" barrel with a 8" long suppressor does NOT equal a 24" barrel. It basically doesn't lengthen your barrel at all in terms of the actual projectile and the gases propelling it. Once it exits the barrel & enters the suppressor the gases are no longer being used for propulsion and are now being converted to thermal energy (heat) to reduce sound. Shorter barrels do have their place though and if you run competitions that require you to pack everything and last all day or all weekend you'll want something like a 20" instead of something like a 26" because that does make a difference.

It does increase the length in exactly the manner I'm saying, i.e., in length. I didn't say one word about ballistics or trajectory.
