Armscor/Citadel 9mm 1911 hollowpoint ammo success

My doubts were put to rest sat when I ran some Blaster 124gr 9mm jhp ammo thru my 1911 Citadell and cycled 3 magfulls or 24 rds with no hiccup to my suprise, since it doesnt have a feedramped barrel like the high end models do. I purchased it for range duty but feel better about using it for home defense also now.

 

Is that those home defense buckshot rounds?

 

9mm jhp = jacketed hollow point 124gr is the weight of the projectile or bullet 9mm is the caliber.

 

And yeah any pistol round hollowpoint ammo is ideal for home and self defense with the safety of others nearby. With regards to over penetration.

 

Awesome, I just picked up some Winchester hollow points for my .45 1911...I'll make sure to have some loaded.

Have you tried those home defense rounds? I almost got some...basically the guy described them as pellet rounds for a shotgun...for your gun lol

 

It sounds like your talking bout snakeshot its more popular in 22lr but its basicly a pellet filled pistol or rifle bullet for varmin and such.

 

Hmmm. Yea that sounds about right...the gun shop I was at was pushing them at the counter...basically said its bird shot...won't even go through drywall...but advertised as "Home defense rounds", but they had the rounds in every size. Was just wondering if anyone has used them before in a .45.

 

If they won't even penetrate drywall I don't think I would want them for a home defense rnd... What if the perp is wearing a canvas or duck material jacket? If drywall stops it I'm sure that would to. I highly doubt it would penetrate skull bone.. Just my .02.

 

You wouldnt want them anyway because there bullet tip is soft plastic like a drinking straw they wouldnt cycle thru your auto pistol and jam. there more suited to revolvers and pump/bolt action rifles. Now corbon frangible self/home defense ammo thats a whole diffrent bird there. I think their advertised as one of the safest home defense ammo. Check out (corbon ammo) on the web get the facts. Last i heard air marshalls use them .good for apartment dwellers too ( collateral injurys ).

Everyones home suroundings is diffrent just have to consider all aspects of backstop safety. Other than that im with you a 12 gauge with deer slugs will tighten up any intruder Texas style.

 

Hell, those Barnes Varmint grenade rounds for 556 look amazing for home defense.
