guard may be easier, but as an entry level airman active duty learns in 6 months of upgrade training what traditional guard would take 3 years. plus more pay, and less weekends.

I'd figure actives is easier...more bodies = more people to share the work load, and always get a paycheck

you have a point with development, but there are a few options for us guardsmen to work more often then once a month

I was a pretty fast burner and got up to speed pretty quick...but it varies for everyone.

I get told the same thing, I actually have to remind people that Im guard, not active duty.

 

Paid $72.50 for registration today. I remember paying $50.00 a couple years ago, but state raised the prize. Another bonus for being in the military

 

Thanks for the help everyone! Felt stupid asking about the airforce on a tacoma forum. Haha. Well Im looking at active duty, mainly for the pay and benefits. I know I wont get rich joining, but the benefits seem pretty good. And Im trying to go back to school (for free) hopefully. Haha. Plus I got over 25 college credits, which I heard I can enter at a higher rank. Currently just studying for the asvab. Been out of school for a while. Taking it one step at a time. As for the guard or reserves, havent really researched much on it. Maybe I should. Thanks again fellas. I'll definitely pm you guys if I have more questions.

 

That amount of college should get you E3 automatically. It'll put you a year and a half above typical enlistees(active duty wise)

 

yup. I believe certain career fields also have some benefits over others.

My graduating class of "newbies" were all promoted to E-3 if they weren't already except for a reserve guy that put on E-2...I think his unit dropped the ball on it. Some were fresh out of high school and others joined late.

 

We get bodies to workload level. We currently have 2 people a shift. Guard has 3 (135 side) and 2 (22 side). Plus guard is so shady and do a lot of favors haha(especially if you've known the guy for 20 yes) off the books. Full time guard is hard to get in most cases.
