Hey guys, I'll be on vacation on the island for a week from June 28th to July 5th. We are staying in Lahaina the whole time. Possibly going to the east side and staying somewhere the last couple days. Not sure yet. I have heard of the road to Hana and was wondering how the road itself is (ie. paved, gravel, narrow, steep, easy). And was also looking for some fun (and cheap) things to do. All the typical hawaii tourist stuff seems to be ridiculously expensive.

If you feel like you have some awesome suggestions feel free to PM me, or I'll just come check this thread again eventually. Thanks guys!

The road is paved all the way to Hana unless you drive around the backside. It's worth the drive. I go every other week.

Shok Industries 2/0 big 4 upgrade and sound deadener.
If you do it either turn around when it goes to dirt or hope your rental doesn't break down out there. My wife and I did the whole loop which made for a looooong day but definitely worth it. I always dig ziplining but we missed it last time so it's a definite must this time around for us. Not cheap but it's good stuff.
