But yeah, iwilei costco was always nuts when I went there. lines go out to the damn road. they need to go ahead and expand that one.
I fill up on base too, and usually don't let it drop below a half-tank, so the cost/savings varience for me is extremely marginal.

Pearl City is generally a pretty good area, central to just about everything but it does have it's share of traffic at peak times.

Mililani - Yes
Aiea - Yes
Kalihi - Apt?? Technically Kalihi is huge so depends
Waimalu - Basically PC or Aiea (same area)
Waipahu - Apt. no... Not that many apartments in Waipahu and the ones I am thinking of, NO.

Have her look at Ewa. Traffic is more or less similar than you would have in Pearl City (depends on what time you leave). A friend has a 2bath, 2bed, 2parking townhouse, apt for $1450. I know more than you may be looking for, but hey..

Also check out Salt Lake.. There is a couple towers close to Mapunapuna that a friend used to live at. Secure.

You may as well bring your lower because the upper is the part you have to register. Bringing firearms in is easy as long as your record is clean. Buying guns here is a PIA so I highly recommend bringing in whatever you plan to use instead of buying here.

You have 72 hours to register firearms once they arrive on island. You have to take them to the Beretania HPD station with $16.50 (exact change). You'll fill out several forms and need all your doctor info, etc. No waiting period for bringing weapons in. Only takes one trip to HPD to register out of state firearms. If you acquire, plan on at least 3 trips to HPD.

All the info is here: http://www.honolulupd.org/informatio...p?page=gunmain

Also, no restrictions on compound bows.

^^^ this is a reason most of my firearms were purchased out of state and I brought them back just for register.

You talking about your home defense pistol or an M4? Let me know what type of firearm you're talking about and I'll get you a straight answer from my FFL.

Your firearm permit for each weapon lists the caliber and barrel length so you need a separate permit for each upper. Pretty sure the lowers have a serial number depending on firearm type.

You can get a long gun permit to acquire. After waiting 14 days for the permit, it's good for a year and you can buy as many shotguns and rifles as you want (still have to take them to HPD to register after purchase).

For handguns, you have to buy the gun, take the receipt/serial number to HPD and apply for a permit to acquire, wait 14 days, go back to HPD to pick up your permit, go pick up the handgun from the dealer, and then take it back to HPD to register.

Bottom line is every trip to the HPD firearms unit is a PIA so I highly recommend bring your guns with you so you only have to make 1 trip.

i have a 14.5 barrel with a 1.5 inch muzzle device upper ar-15. typically i mail my upper as a "tool" in cali. which the united stats post office doesnt mind and was wondering if i can mail it to myself or have my dad do it when im in hawaii. then register the upper since my lower is from a 80% with no markings.

once again guys, thanks for all the info and helping me prepare for this move.

also... considering shipping some steel hostile silhouette targets

and my steel plate molle rig from the target man

but wondering if its even worth bringing? i typically would go to a desert to shoot since most ranges only allow paper targets and no drill target shooting... typically bench shooting... hows it in hawaii?

Legally ( not out in the far country or something, you would not be able to bring those out. We have one outdoor range and only paper targets can be put up. There is a silhouette handgun range there, but the metal targets are like rabbits and other non-human looking stuff. There is a indoor range, that you can use paper silhouettes but no metal. (Unless that place closed down)

Sorry about the late reply. HI law requires a permit and registration of the part with the serial number. I was mistaken in my earlier post. Typically the lower shows the serial number on an AR-15. Not sure how it'll go down if you ship it. However, you'll likely need a permit to buy a new lower here and will have to go through pain of at least 3 visits to HPD. I'd just bring your whole rifle and make a single trip to HPD if I were you.
