Pretty sure you can't pass safety or recon with projectors. With the new safety inspection procedures (photos, database), your chance of finding a sketchy inspector is gone. I'd recommend the BHLM....very nice look and totally legal.

Anyone here been able to pass a legit safety with retrofitted headlights? I could be mistaken....

OP you can always do the mod yourself. Go with the Mini H1 or Mini D2S. These don't really require any modification at all to the headlight housing. TRS has pretty much the best of everything, kits, infos, installation guide, customer service etc. Theres also HIDPlanet if you want more info. (Disclaimer: I don't work for TRS, just a happy customer.)

I went with the Mini D2S kit from TRS, and installed it myself. Installed it August of 2011, mod still going strong, no leaks, fogging or anything like that. As for the whole safety check recon thing, I passed my safety check this past august after failing it the first time. I went to a different station and finally passed and yes it was legit. Not really sure if the inspector new anything about retros or what not. But with the whole new safety check procedure rolling out, I'll probably get a used second set to swap out when it comes that time.

I got morimoto d2s on my 01. Really the only thing i did to the housing it self was melt the glue to take off the front and install the projector and re mount the front glass.. I go at the end of the month and see if ill pass. If no then ill just swap my stock housings back on and go to another station haha. I'm on Maui though, so maybe they are a little more lenient than Oahu.

Come out to the "End of the Year Cruise" and you can meet some of the guys that have RETROS and possibly get advice or maybe even MEET someone that does and would help/do the retro for you
