If you can't do the lighter stuff without belt, you are moving too fast. Drop down to a weight you can handle easily without belts, straps, etc... Then work there for a couple months. Focus on speed, form, etc.. There are more then muscles that need to build and adapt. People are in too much of a rush in the gym to lift heavy. You can get away with that bologna on some lifts. That belt can help you nug out that last rep or two that would of been sloppy. It's not however, going to stop the internal carnage that you're inflicting from having a core that can't support the weight you insist on lifting weekly.
Artificial Scenario: Dude starts DL'ing. First time doing it, he pulls 150 and about blacks out. 4 months later he is trying to pull 300. WTF?????? Where's the fire. At that progressive rate, you plan on pulling 600 in eight months??? What about two years from now???

Real scenario: I saw a dude earlier this year pull his way to three herniated discs in the matter of one semester following something similar to above. Decided he'd try his hand in power lifting (been doing bb stuff for a little). Ask him how much that belt helped his core support the weight. Better yet, ask him if he'll ever be able to lift heavy again.

I don't know what it is about DL, but everyone likes to keep tossing on plates and SLOWLY drag that weight up. Then add twenty more pounds and repeat. Everything at the same slow speed.

Go find that powerlift/oly lift gorilla that every gym has. The dude who's 450lb squat or 500lb dead looks just like his 135lb one. Then ask him how he progressed to that, and how long he's been lifting. That's not an over night thing. More like years upon years to get there.

Anywho. I'm done ranting. Been in the library for six hours. The semester just started and is already putting a damper on my social life, so had to vent.

    Age, class, weight?????

My friend ran marathons. Decided to try an ultra. The first one he ran, not only did he win, but he set the US record. Just bc there are exceptions to the rules, doesn't mean we should circumvent them.

forget the class, though he was at 198

    pulled 622.5

we used to lift together. when I went home, he jumped in my warm-down squat set (225) to do OHP's with. sad face

i totally agree with your point. Just thought I'd be "that guy"

being "that guy" made me sad.

I know that feeling. There's a guy at my gym who can OHP 225 all day. Then get in the next rack and front squat 400lbs for a super set. With a speed that I don't think I'm capable of moving without weight.
When he's there, I go do hang cleans until he leaves the rack area. :D

jesus all this reading.. for dayyzzz

I agree with serious weight and using a belt for sure, for the most part I wont lift without a belt or straps because I can utilize my other muscles; core; forearms etc etc. But when I need to push past a weight or if Im feeling fatigued I gotta throw on the belt and make sure I dont hurt myself

maybe im a bitch too... :pout:

    agreed :D
