I am in my 40's and decided to get in shape 2 years ago. I ran every day at least 2.5 miles for a year (often much more) with occasional days off. Every other day I would run while lifting a barbell. At first I could barely get around the block but I am still doing it, but now training for a marathon so I have to take days off in order to be able to do long runs. Ran 12-15 miles today. Probably no trainer would ever agree with me, but I highly recomend the weights! I started with 10 lbs, now I do 20 as my cross training days or I go to the Gym and lift. Good luck.
