I don't know what the AF has thats similar to ACS (Army Community Service) but they should have something "similar". Through ACS we get 12 free and anonymous off post counesling sessions. Social anxiety is something that is becomming common (especially with Soldiers who have deployed) in the Army. For most its extremely common to have anger and social issues within 12 months of redeployment. Its a bigger concern if it is just as bad or gets worse 9-12 months upon redeployment. The point being the military has come a long ways and there should be a way for you to get a professional assessment at no cost to you. In fact check out the link below to MilitaryOneSource. There should be availible treatment or assessment without the stigma of your CoC being "in the loop". Like I said the military has come a long ways in taking care of our men and women. Disregard any of the deployment stuff I said if you have not deployed, this is for any military member or dependent.

Good Luck!

A lot of alcoholics and drug addicts have it too. In the early stages of alcoholism, alcohol helps us to fit in with society.

Yeah...Say I think B.H.O. is a communist, and you get people calling you a racist, even though you are not. Just like here on this forum, people are very tentative of asking questions... thinking they will get flamed. T.W. not as hostile as the JK forum from what I can tell. With any forum though, you will get a keyboard tough guy. I am at the point of just staying home, and staying out of trouble. Maybe because I am in the middle of nowhere, central Mexico. Cant wait to get out of this hell hole, and head for the Keys.

Seriously though, I love interacting with people (rarely happens) I rarely talk to ppl at school, Ima real silent type the majority of the time. So I really suprise people sometimes when I start talking to them. hahaha

Most people never make eye contact when walking about, pisses me off. Everybody has their goddamn face buried in their stupid phones and never notice anything going on around them. Which makes them seem so antisocial, and makes it difficult to approach anybody.

Everywhere I look...people looking at their phones like it's gonna tell them what to do with their lives... :gah:

Edit: I especially hate people who use their phone to get out of socially interacting with others. Example, people who put their phone to their ear the moment the prof. dismisses the class every time the class ends.

I hate people! FUCK I HATE PEOPLE.

A year late but gotta say this reply is dead on!!!! Couldn't agree more!

Have always, in general, been terrible in social situations.

It's all a long drawn out story, never fit in with any group in H.S, kids who listened to the same music barely even spoke to me. Tied to a bike rack by my Starter Bengals jacket in 5th grade by several other classmates. Truly and totally an outcast all my schooling (forming) years. It does fuck you up.

I can not walk up to folks I don't know and just start talking. I get along quite well with people I do know, work, family. Always been horrible trying to talk to girls, didn't think I'd ever find one. Still only really been with 2 girls my whole life. Knew I'd have to turn a "friend" into a relationship. Got lucky and met my wife at a place we both worked.

I don't do bars. Never been to a strip club, or even just a club. Have very few real "friends".

Going to meets was/is a very nervous moment for me. Here I am, in the middle of nowhere, hardly know who I'm with, bad at conversations regardless. With my dumbass 5 lug truck.

Been to plenty of concerts, but I usually hang out in the back. Rather watch and listen than get kicked in the head.

It sucks. It really does.

I don't waste time crying about it though. I'm happy now, I figured out the only person who can change my attitude and shit around me, was me. Most people never get that far, it always someone els'es fault.

Sorry to hear it, but there really are others like me. I've often wondered.

I'm even worse. I don't do concerts. Never been to a bar or club. I've never been with a girl, or even really had a girlfriend, and I'll be 51 this month. Yes, it sucks big time.

Woah i thought i had social anxiety untill i read this thread. I just hate uncontrolled crowds like at big concerts and packed movie theaters or clubs. Give me a chill bar with a decent band and a table in the corner and im great.

Thanks for un diagnosing me guys!

After reading through this thread I realize that I do have a form of social anxiety. I hate going to bars or any other places that have big crowds cause I get annoyed with people very easily. I have a hard time speaking in front of a group of people and just going up and talking to people I don't know. What's weird to me is that as soon as I start feeling a little buzzed I am a total different person. I love being around people and will go up and talk to anyone. My friends say I become the life of the party. Is that common for people with social anxiety?

Nope not one bit. Too old for that. Never sweat the small stuff and that is what that is.
Be confident in "You". No matter the venue
