I've been working out on and off, started again recently. I keep getting this urge to snack but I know I will just end up eating like crazy till I get bloated. Any tips on how to keep yourself from getting that urge to snack/gorge?

in the event I want flavor lol. I get like that sometimes. I have to drink a lot of water anyhow (meds, sucks ass since they taste like SHIT). Is tea bad for you? I was reading on some form the doctor gave me it has caffeine in it. I mainly like green tea (no sugar, just bag and hot water).

lol, I tried that, even started posting some. ended up finding some food videos, then stumbled upon the Food BS thread ... smh

usually what I can find/see/is okay for me to eat (allergies to egg and dairy products). When I snack period I start to get this urge to get more, like say I "intended" lol to only eat an apple. I get done and my brain wants more... or my belly w/e one is getting me to do things. I time myself too, started eating breakfast ... smh, feels like a tease I swear. that's at around say 9/10 am then wait till like 4/5pm to eat lunch, dinner I'm not so sure. It's probably whenever I remember how much time since i last ate.

So your only eating two meals a day? No wonder you feel like snaking/gorging. You really need to eat three meals. I usually eat breakfast around 8:00 then lunch around 1:00 and then I don't eat supper until I'm hungry which is usually around 6:00 or 6:30 and then nothing else for the rest of the night. However, I usually have a couple beers in the evening. Water helps with the munchies later at night.

I believe that green tea is actually very good for you and no caffein.

Tea is pretty much flavoured water so go for it and it doesn't even have much if any caffeine depending on what type you get. There's also the Crystal Light/Arizona Tea/etc packets that you can dump in 16oz of water and go. I'm the same way with snacking though, I just use will power more than anything and try not to buy garbage to snack on(highly processed food with 'enriched' ingredients, stuff with high fructose corn syrup). The convenience store is always hell for me in that regard.

Also try to eat multiple small meals throughout the day. I eat breakfast at 7ish, then I have a snack around 9, lunch at 11:30, snack again at 3 or 4 before the gym, then protein shake after the gym with dinner 30 minutes to an hour later.

pretty much. I just don't see the point in teasing myself with breakfast to be honest. There's not much here (90% of the breakfast stuff has egg and/or dairy involved :( ). At 6am I have to take meds, then before work I usually grab a hash brown or w/e small. Not really sure how much to eat in the morning. Then just work until 4/5pm and then eat a meal. I do try to stop eating anything after 6pm (which is another time I take meds). Cool, I freaking love tea lol.

lmao I'm usually lurking around them trying to find something I feel isn't soo bad, being on a budget sucks! what's considered a "meal" v a "snack" portion wise. I think I'm getting them mixed up within the hunger. To me a meal is like something you buy at a restaurant - example, lunch; sandwich, some chips and drink/average bowl size of soup, drink/etc.). snacks, I usually see them as like small little quick things. bite sizers.

Your first mistake....never skip breakfast. Thats what gets your motor running. Eat, then workout 45min to an hour after. Even if its a piece of fruit and toast. Too bad you cant eat eggs? your prob not getting enough protien to keep good muscle mass which in turn helps burn fat from all the snacking u do.
2nd, eat 4-6 small meals and drink lots of water as others have alrdy said.
3rd, dont even bring shity snack food in your house, toss it in the trash or give it to a homeless person. you dont need it around when u get the urge. snack on good stuff, fruit , nuts, low sugar protien bar or something healthy like that.
4, do some research on diet/exercise and learn from people that have experience. Damn doctors, all they want to do is shove meds down you. Sometimes nessecary, but most times NOT!

can't period. makes my throat swell up. dairy isn't so bad but can't have it as much, my limit is pretty much when my nose starts running, sneezing a lot as well as being itchy mainly my nose (was irritated so much this one time, my brother asked if I was on crack cause it looked like I was trying to scratch my nose off). Sucks ass big time, was born like this, so alternatives to protein is like a scavenger hunt for me
what's considered a "small" meal? about 2/3 yrs ago I was trying to lose weight after I got out of college, a friend suggested that I eat portions no larger than a deck of cards. kind of worked ... but I ended up forgetting to eat all the time. you wouldn't believe the amount of pills I have had to take just within LAST YEAR!!! :frusty: but I guess it was for the best ... smh

Water, water, water. Hunger is oftern confused for thirst. Snack on fruits and veggies if hungry.

EDIT: Eat oatmeal w/ fruit for breakfast. No egg or dairy. And very good for you. Also, there are alternative proteins out there w/ out dairy or egg. Try getting protein from beans and nuts.

Try oatmeal for breakfast. Oatmeal is a slow burner so that should help ease your cravings. You could eat a handful of nuts a yogurt, or string cheese for a snack as well both are filling and good for you. Also when you eat a snack eat it slowly so your mind and stomach thinks that its getting more food and thus curbs hunger and that urge to snack more longer.

Also what are you taking pills for if you don't mind me asking?

I'have been trying to stay away from this thread, but I can't. Why? People that mean well, but are fool of misinformation.

First, it's not just about what you eat, but also about what you don't eat.

Think about this, what was available to eat 200 years ago, 100 years ago, 50 years ago and 10 years ago when obesity rates started skyrocketing.

Do something else, ask a relative that has old family pics, from 20-30 years ago, and you'll be amazed at what you see. Only a few fat people, and hardly any obese on those pics.

You want to know what happened? Cheap corn, as in HFCS and other HEAVILY processed oils like soybean and canola. BTW, has anyone ever seen a "Canola" plant? Nope, there is no such thing!

In any event, all this and the advent of the processed foods is what happened.

    This is what I suggest:

Make a list of what you eat. If it's processed or has preservatives, get rid of it, even if bought at health food store.

Eat things that have few ingredients, 10 ingredients or less. Try to learn how to make meals from scratch, it sounds hard and at the beginning it will, but once you start, hopefully you'll love it.

Have complete balanced meals, starting with a good healthy breakfast. Eggs or bacon ar not the enemy, garbage feed chicken eggs and nitrited bacon are. When eating oatmeal, soak the grains on water overnight, and don't be afraid of using REAL Butter.

For snacking: Buy FRESH FRUIT and Fresh Nuts, some high quality chocolate, but not a lot.

Yes, do drink water, but if you piss is clear, then back off a little with the water intake. That's your body's way of letting you know that there is enough water on your body, and too much water is as bad as too little.

Eat fresh vegetables. Sometimes eat them raw, use some fresh preservative free high quality peanut butter or almond butter if that helps. Fresh raw fruits and veggies are EXCELLENT for your teeth.

Don't eat out all the time (two-three times a week should be plenty) and avoid most fast food like they carry the plague

Get checked out by a Doctor so that you can EXERCISE, and by this I mean, break out a sweat and elevate your cardio heart rate. When you do mix it up. I don't always run fast, or run long. Strenght training should also be part of the program, but before you do this, educate yourself about it, so that U don't get hurt.

GET REST: That means sleep at least 6 hours, but sometimes 8-9 is what the body demands. When the body does not get enough rest, it will need more fuel to function. More fuel = more calories which means more exercise for you to burn those calories...

If this sounds harsh, it is. Your current lifestyle got you where you are at. You want a better lifestyle? It will cost you.

I know what I'm talking about. I'm 39 and I look better and feel better than when I was 29. I'm also way stronger and faster than when I was 19 and in the Army.

You could try juicing in the morning. I usually throw in 4-5 apples, some cantaloupe with rind, what ever berries are in season and a chunk of ginger. ...yumm
    Kids love it too.
I don't do the juice for lunch everyday, but my favorite is carrot, beet, apple and celery.

hyperthyroid, mine is on the high level (according to the doctor it's hard to control). I take (well for now that is) 6 pills in the morning and then 6 pills again in the evening. I was also prescribed vitamin D pills but I forgot the last dosage (when I go in for check ups my doctor sometimes asks about the Vitamin D pill, took a supplement one once, was about 5mg or something, was shitting ALL DAY!!!).

I have seen past photos of my family ... got me bad when I was younger, more than half of all my uncles were fat as hell!! guts all over the damn place! I was easting salads a lot up until hs I think, I guess after a while I got tired of it .
VERY true, it's close to costing me my life actually (I'm currently on the border of cancer, as of now the cancer dealie is benine? (sp)). I'm going to try and do all of this though, need to regylate what Im eating and not just stuff myself - was 140, twitching like a 70 yr old ... hell I WAS a 70 yr old. Started eating all meats and lifting, ended up quadrupaling (sp .. or rather proper grammar) my weight to 180, last I saw though, I was around 185. I'm about 5'4/5'5 (I slouch sometimes). is this a normal weight? I kept hearing the doctors tell me that 140 wasn't the "ave" for someone my size.

185 lbs in a 5-5 frame? Unless you are BUILT, then know I seriously doubt that that's a normal weight.

I suggest you start with baby steps, too much, too soon ans you will flame out. Another things, Don't be discouraged that you won't see fast results, nothing in life is.

After I change my eating habits, I did not loose a pound in almost a year. The after that I lost 15 almost in a two week span. Everyone though I was sick! But you know what? In that year my cholesterol and tryglicerides along with my own personal feeling were getting continuosly better, W/O meds! That's how I knew that I was on the right path!

Even better, my then primary care doc at the V.A. was surprised of my overall appaerance, and asked about what I was up too. After I told her, she was addamant that I should get back on the meds program and quit what I was doing. She was at least 100 lbs overweight, had all kinds of problems and could barely move! I told her as gently as I could, "If I do what you tell me, will I end up like you?, No txs! She never treated me after that! :D
