Sciatic nerve pain

I have been having pain in my lower left hip/butt cheek area for a while now, it starts in that area and shoots a tingling sensation down my leg and foot. I've tried accupunture and massages and nothing seems to help. I did some googleing and found a clinic in my area that specializes in that type of problem and uses a non surgical spine decompression treatment so I decided to go down there and look into it. they took some x-rays and turns out I have a buldging disk in my "L5" thats pinching the sciatic nerve and causing the pain. I got a tour of the facility and was explained how the treatment works, everything seems legit and sounds like they know what they're doing and can help with my problem. The only problem is my insurance doesn't cover it so I either have to come up with the cost of the treatment which is $5,000 or finance it.

I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this sort of treatment and if it really works or should I look into another option, maybe with a chiropractor.

this is they video I watched before talking to the doctor, it explains their treatment.

OP, I have the same exact thing you do. Ive had it for about 3 years now. IIRC, I think the Doc said I had a bulging disk (L5/S1) and it ruptured. So basically I have 2 bones sitting on each other now and also have the sciatic nerve pain. Ive had the decompression therapy, and while it feels great while your going through it, it essentially did nothing for me. Talked to a specialist, (after the first guy wanted to do surgery right away since Im military), and was told I should let it be and over time it will mostly heal itself. I let it be, and to this day, my back is fine, but still get the nerve pain only once in a while. Mainly if Ive been sitting on my ass for too long. I even work out 6 days a week (squats and deadlift all the time). My advice, take it somewhat easy and let it be for a while. Save the money unless you are in severe unbearable pain. Good luck to you.

This is actually the 1st time I've tried to go through my insurance for it, everything else I've tried I've paid out of pocket since the accupunture and massages have one been anywhere from $40-$100. I'm gonna give my insurance a call tomorrow and see what they cover and if they can refer me to a specialist

i've had budging disk for years now. i usally go a few times a yr for steroid injections. to be honest, its a never ending backache from h#ll. i would not spend 5k, unless they can guarantee that your pain will go away and never come back. once you develop back problems, they rarely go away with treatment.

I've used it during my heavy Martial Art years and it helped. Some of the guys and girls had back pain before they started and with the stretching and range of motion work and the inversion rack helped relieved their back pain.
My sister has had 3 back surgerys and a hip replacement and for a fact she has told me many times she would have waited for one of her back operations because she is no better.
Backs are fickle things and I know what your going through. Take some time to evaluate all your options. Once the knife comes out there is no turning back.
With that being said, one of my co workers was almost bed riddin from pain for a back injury and had work done and he is much much better. He is super happy he had it done. It can and does work.

I wish you the very best of luck.

Unfortunately you or anyone else can't tell you the solution until they know the problem. The only way to see the problem is with a CAT scan if you're lucky or an MRI. If the disk is just bulging then a shot of steriods by a nerologist usually solves the problem. If the disk has ruptured then many times the pieces must be removed surgically. Something is pressing on the nerve to give you pain. No massage or pseudo-science is going to solve the issue. Sometimes if it's an inflamed bulging disk but not ruptured, time and anti-inflamatory medications will help.

I've had inflamed, ruptured, and bulging disk throughout my life with every one of the treatments mentioned above. I get that it's expensive to see a specialist but you will have to sacrifice something and find a way. You can't have qualify of life with the severe pain. Also if it prevents you from working you need to invest in getting a real solution, not just a "we hope this works after 20 treatments" from a chiropractor. Good luck.
